Notice relating to Maori Lexicon.

Native Office,
Wellington, 8th July, 1885.

THE Hon. the Native Minister desires that officers of the Native Department, and all others interested in the matter, will be good enough to assist the Rev. W. Colenso, of Napier, who is engaged in preparing for publication a Maori-English Lexicon, by furnishing him with the use of any peculiar tribal word or phrase pertaining to their particular districts, and also with any new or strange words they may know or may have noted down.

Mr. Colenso purposes, when the lexicon is published, to give due individual acknowledgment to all who shall have assisted in its preparation.

Agricultural Lease cancelled.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned agricultural lease cancelled, and that the ground is now open for application as if no lease of the said ground had ever been applied for:-

John Nugent Wood; Section 5, Block III., 40 acres 2 roods 28 perches, Waikaia District, Otago Mining District. No. 1421c.

Certificate of Protection.

IN accordance with the third section of "The Mines Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1879," a certificate of protection for six months, from the 1st May, 1885, to the 1st November, 1885, is granted in favour of the Golden Point Gold-Mining Company for their special claim of 80 acres 2 roods 11 perches, at Devil's Creek, Inangahua.

Gold-Mining Lease to be granted.

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of "The Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations made under that Act for the granting of leases for gold-mining purposes, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a lease of Crown lands for gold-mining purposes to the applicants specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be valid objections against such lease.
