Notice under "The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883."

WHEREAS the estate and interest of Te Waari, Te Rimene Rire, Te Ahikouhai, and Karamana Kiki, aboriginal natives of New Zealand, in the land described in the Schedule hereto, is vested in William Iorns and Manihera Maaka, and William Iorns and Hamuera Tangatakino, as Trustees under the provisions of "The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867," and the several amendments thereof, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is intended, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land in respect of the interests aforesaid, in order that the said lands may be leased by the said Trustees for a term of fourteen years, from the first day of April, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three.

Dated at Wellington, this sixth day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-five.

SCHEDULE.

All that piece of land situate at Te Oreore, in the District of Wairarapa, known by the name of "Okurupatu," containing 5,600 acres, more or less, except thereout the portion of the said block lying to the south side of the main road from Masterton to the Upper Taueru, and excepting also all that piece of the said block, containing 20 acres, marked off for the use of the lessors.

PRIVATE SIDING ACCESS.

By-law.

IN pursuance of the powers vested in me by the one hundred and forty-fourth and the one hundred and seventy-first sections of "The Public Works Act, 1882," I, Edward Richardson, Minister for Public Works, do hereby make the following by-law, such by-law to come into force forthwith:

  1. A limited number of private sidings only will be granted at stations, and such sidings only will be granted as the Railway Department, after full consideration, finds can conveniently and safely be allowed.

  2. No siding access will be permitted without formal application is made, and without the consent of the Minister for Public Works, in writing, is first obtained thereto; and no consideration will be accorded to applicants upon the plea that they have incurred expense in anticipation of obtaining such consent.

  3. The applicant shall pay to the Minister the whole cost of constructing the siding and its connections.

  4. The applicant shall pay rental, quarterly in advance, at the following rates per annum:

(a.) For any siding access granted on to the railway, not being at a railway station, £100;

(b.) For any siding access at either of the chief stations—Auckland, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, Christchurch, Timaru, Oamaru, Port Chalmers, Dunedin, Invercargill, Bluff—£50;

(c.) For any siding access at any other railway station, £25.

  1. Upon the expiration of the term for which any existing rights have been granted by the Minister for Public Works, the grantees may renew their tenure under these regulations at the option of the Minister, but, failing the Minister's approval thereto, the siding will be removed by the Minister.

  2. Such persons as have heretofore been using siding access without the formal authorization of the Minister shall have three months' notice given them by or on behalf of the Minister to terminate the use of such access, or to make application in the form prescribed hereinafter, and the Minister may, at his option, grant the application; but, failing the Minister's approval thereto, or in event of the person heretofore using the siding neglecting to apply within the prescribed time, the siding will be removed by the Minister.

  3. Every application shall be made upon the printed form, which shall be accompanied by a cheque for the proper premium.

  4. The form of application may be obtained from the officers of the Working Railways Department.
