Patent Office,
Wellington, 26th May, 1885.
PATENT for Meat-preserving, called "Bennett's Patent
Meat-preserving Process." No. 1193. Dated 12th
August, 1884.
This is to notify to all whom it may concern that Thomas

land, in the said provincial district, Butcher, and HENRY
BYRON, of Auckland aforesaid, Coal Merchant, the registered
owners of the above patent, have applied to me for leave to
enter a disclaimer of part of, and a memorandum of altera-
tion in, the said invention, the particulars whereof are stated
below. I do therefore appoint Thursday, the 2nd day of July
next, at 11 o'clock, to hear and consider the said applica-
tion and all objections to the same; and I do hereby require
all persons having an interest in opposing the said applica-
tion to leave, on or before the 17th day of June, at my office,
in the City of Wellington, particulars in writing of their
objections to the same, otherwise they will be precluded

specification of the said invention or patent:—
-
We disclaim the reducing of animals to insensibility by
the specified process of stunning. -
We disclaim the use of sal prunella entirely, and also
the use, in the proportions and mode mentioned in the said
specification, of the boracic acid. -
We disclaim clause 3 of the said specification.
The following is the alteration we desire to make in the
said specification:— -
We render the animal insensible to pain by severing the
spinal cord at the back of the head. -
We then open the jugular vein or any other suitable
vein, and insert the point or mouth of a force-pump into the
vein, and then force or pump into the circulatory system of
the slaughtered animal the mixture composed of the ingre-
dients and in the proportions following, viz., from 4 to 7
ounces of boracic acid, according to the state of the atmo-
sphere at the time, dissolved in 20 ounces of water at a high
temperature, such water having been previously purified by
lime, the acid being thoroughly dissolved in and mixed with
the purified water, and allowed to cool to blood-heat, when
it is ready to be forced or pumped into the circulatory sys-
tem of the animal as before specified. We then bleed and
dress the animal in the usual way. -
We use 20 ounces of the above mixture to every 100
pounds weight of the carcase of any animal treated by us
under the above process or invention.
