Notice to Mariners, No. 13 of 1885.

PORT PHILLIP.

Marine Department,
Wellington, 30th April, 1885.

NOTICE has been received from the Government of Victoria that it may be necessary, for the safety of the Port of Melbourne and the protection of life and property to, at any moment, remove the facilities now offered for the navigation of Port Phillip. In the event of such action being necessary, masters of vessels approaching the heads will be warned thereof by finding the lights at Points Lonsdale and Queenscliffe extinguished. No vessel will be permitted to enter between sunset and sunrise. Arrangements will be made for piloting vessels between sunrise and sunset. Electric lights may be exhibited at any time from Queenscliffe and Point Nepean for defence purposes. Such lights must not be taken as guiding lights.
