Defining the Middle Line of Further Portion of the Picton-Hurunui Railway (Dashwood Contract).

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the Picton-Hurunui Railway is one of the railways specified in the First Schedule to “The Public Works Act, 1879,” and which Act is, in the seventh section thereof, declared to be a special Act authorizing the construction of such railway; and such railway is unfinished, and it has been determined to construct and maintain a further portion of the same:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the aforesaid section seven of “The Public Works Act, 1879,” and by sections one hundred and twenty-nine and one hundred and thirty of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and in exercise of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the middle line of the said further portion of the said railway shall be as defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

COMMENCING at a point in Section No. 26, Opawa Survey District, the said point being the termination of a portion of the railway as described in a Proclamation dated the 14th December, 1881, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 106, of the 15th December, 1881; proceeding thence in a generally southerly direction for a distance of 6 miles 10 chains or thereabouts, and passing in, into, through, or over the following lands: Opawa Survey District, Sections Nos. 26, 23, 17, and 16; Omaka Survey District, Sections Nos. 1 of Block II., 6 of Block II., 7 of Block II., 25 of Block II., 13 of Block II., and 27 of Block II.; Awatere Survey District, Section No. 2 of Block I.; and terminating at a point in the Awatere Survey District in Section No. 2 of Block I.; all within the County of Marlborough, Provincial District of Marlborough; including all intervening places, lands, roads, streams, rivers, and water-courses; in the manner delineated upon the plan marked P.W.D. 11368, signed by the Hon. John Bryce, the Minister acting for the Minister for Public Works, and deposited in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court at Blenheim, in the Provincial District of Marlborough; the total length being 6 miles 10 chains or thereabouts.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this eleventh day of June, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto is vested in a certain aboriginal native of New Zealand, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excellency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land.
