Defining the Middle Line of Further Portion of the Branch Line of Railway from Racecourse to Southbridge, with a Sub-branch to Little River and thence to Akaroa (Hurunui-Waitaki).

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the branch line of railway from Racecourse to Southbridge, with a sub-branch to Little River and thence to Akaroa (Hurunui-Waitaki), is one of the railways specified in the First Schedule to “The Public Works Act, 1879,” and which Act is, in the seventh section thereof, declared to be a special Act authorizing the construction of such railway; and such railway is unfinished, and it has been determined to construct and maintain a further portion of the same:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities conferred on me by the aforesaid section seven of “The Public Works Act, 1879,” and by sections one hundred and twenty-nine and one hundred and thirty of “The Public Works Act, 1882,” and in exercise of every other power and authority in anywise enabling me in that behalf, do hereby proclaim and declare that the middle line of the said further portion of the said railway shall be as defined and set forth in the Schedule hereto.

SCHEDULE.

COMMENCING at a point on the shore of Lake Forsyth distant about 5 chains from the south-westernmost corner of Rural Section No. 1850, in the Little River Road District, the said point being the termination of a portion of the Little River and Akaroa Railway, as described in the Proclamation dated the 2nd September, 1882, and published in the New Zealand Gazette No. 74, of the 7th September, 1882; proceeding thence in a generally easterly direction for a distance of four miles or thereabouts, and passing in, into, through, or over the following lands, &c.: Along the north shore of Lake Forsyth Railway Reserve, Reserve No. 385, Rural Sections Nos. 6265 and 6489, Native Reserve No. 887, and terminating at a point in the said Native Reserve No. 887 distant about 9 chains from the easternmost corner of Rural Section No. 2662: including all adjoining and intervening roads, reserves, streams, rivers, and watercourses; all within the Little River Road District, Provincial District of Canterbury, Colony of New Zealand; in the manner delineated upon the plan marked P.W.D. 10965, signed by the Honourable Edwin Mitchelson, the Minister for Public Works, and deposited in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court at Christchurch, in the Provincial District of Canterbury; the total length being four miles or thereabouts.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this fifteenth day of December, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto is vested in certain aboriginal natives of New Zealand, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excellency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-third day of November, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that piece of land situate in the Oakura District, in the County of Taranaki, containing by admeasurement eight acres and five perches, more or less, and being the Allotment numbered eleven on the map of the Ahuahu Town Belt.
