A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS the land described in the Schedule hereto is vested in certain aboriginal natives of New Zealand, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is the intention of His Excellency the Governor, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land.

Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued under the Seal of the said Colony, at the Government House, at Auckland, this first day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

ALL that piece of land situated in the Te Aroha Survey District, containing 2 roods, more or less, being part of Section No. 17 of Block IX. on the map of Te Aroha Survey District, and part of the land described in Vol. xxiv., folio 166, of the Register-book, which said piece of land intended to be conveyed is part of Block IX. on the map of the Te Aroha Gold Field Town; and is bounded towards the North-east by Lower Street, 150 links; towards the South-east by Bridge Street, 333·2 links; towards the South-west by Church Street, 150 links; and towards the North-west by other part of said Block IX. on said map, 333·2 links.

IN exercise of the powers vested in me by “The Animals Protection Act, 1880,” and “The Animals Protection Act Amendment Act, 1881,” I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, do hereby appoint all that area comprised within the Counties of Amuri and Kaikoura to be a district under the said Acts, to be called the Kaikoura District. And I do hereby notify that native game (excepting tuis) may be taken or killed in the said district until the thirty-first day of July, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

As witness the hand of His Excellency the Governor, this twelfth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

Validating Election of Native Assessor under Licensing Acts.

WHEREAS by regulations made under “The Licensing Act, 1881,” and “The Licensing Act Amendment Act, 1882,” it is provided that, where any accidental or unavoidable impediment or omission shall have happened, the Governor may, by warrant under his hand, take all such measures as may be necessary for removing such impediment or rectifying such misfeasance or omission, or may declare all or any of the proceedings at or for any election held under the said Acts valid as to and notwithstanding such impediment, misfeasance, or omission; and that every warrant issued under this regulation shall be published in the Kahiti and New Zealand Gazette, and shall state specifically the nature of the impediment, misfeasance, or omission: And whereas on or about the twenty-eighth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, Hira te Popo was nominated as Assessor for the Native Licensing District of Waioeka, and was on the said twenty-eighth day of February, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, declared duly elected as Assessor for the said Native licensing district by Charles Daykin Litchfield, the person conducting the election: And whereas the said Charles Daykin Litchfield had no authority to conduct such election, not having been appointed Returning Officer, Substitute Returning Officer, or Deputy Returning Officer for the said District of Waioeka; but such election was in other respects duly conducted, and it is expedient to validate the same:

Now, therefore, I, William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and
