Application for Registration of Two Trade Marks.

NOTICE is hereby given that HENRY HALLORAN, of 2, Wentworth Court, Sydney, in the Colony of New South Wales, has applied, on behalf of Messrs. ILSEY, DOUBLE-DAY, AND COMPANY, of 213, Pearl Street, New York, United States of America, and of 42, Market Street, Sydney, in the Colony of New South Wales aforesaid, Manufacturers and Commission Merchants, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade marks of which the following is a description:—

Description of Trade Mark No. 1.

A label with the words “Johnston’s Patent Standard Dry Sized Kalsomine” on top part of it; on the centre of same a shield, and in centre of shield a bucket with brushes across the top and a palette with fine brushes leaning against the side of the bucket; the words “Trade Mark” being printed beneath, which are enclosed in four lines. On the left of the shield is a cut representing a medal, above which are the words “Patented, Feby. 15th, 1870,” underneath “Grand Medal and Diploma;” on the right of the shield a cut representing a medal, above which are the words “Re-issued, July 29th, 1873,” underneath same the words “Centennial Exposition, 1876;” at the bottom of label the words “Ready for use.”

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

Johnston’s patent standard dry-sized kalsomine and fresco paints, in packages, barrels and half-barrels.

Description of Trade Mark No. 2.

The words “Bidwell’s Celebrated Axle Grease, Manufactured by Ilsey, Doubleday, & Co., Sole Proprietors and Manufacturers,” printed on labels or impressed or stencilled on boxes or other packages.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

THE following Notices to Mariners, received from the Hydrographer to the United States Hydrographic Office, Washington, are published for general information.

SAILING DIRECTIONS OF THE FIJI ISLAND, 1882.

LEVUKA.—Lights.—According to a report of Captain Chateau-minois, of the French cruiser “Limier,” the Port of Levuka is lighted as follows:—

  1. A fixed white (upper) light, elevated 262 feet above the sea and visible sixteen miles, shown from a white pyramid 26 feet in height.

  2. A fixed red (lower) light, elevated 210 feet above the sea and visible five miles; shown from a white pyramid 29 feet in height.

  3. A fixed green light, elevated 16 feet above the sea and visible two miles; shown from a wooden post on Queen’s Wharf.

The red and white lights are only visible between the bearings N.W. by N. (N. 43° 20′ W. magnetic) and S. by W. (S. 1° 40′ W. magnetic), over an arc of 135°.

Bearings true and from seaward. Variation, 9° 35′ easterly in 1884.

SUVA HARBOUR.—Buoyage.—According to the report of the commanding officer of the French cruiser “Limier,” the buoyage of the Port of Suva is as follows:—

Two white buoys at the north point of the reef forming the eastern side of the outer entrance to Tomba-Ko-Suva.

One white buoy on the northern edge of the isolated patch of 2 fathoms lying to eastward of the north point of the same reef.

A white buoy lying S.S.E. (S. 32° 10′ E. magnetic) from the preceding, indicating the north side of a shoal of 6 feet.

A black buoy on the shoal of 16½ feet which prolongs the north-east point of the reef forming the western side of the outer pass (N’Daveta Levu).

A black buoy on the southern point of a bank which prolongs the low rocky point forming the east side of the entrance to the River Wai-Lami.

A black buoy is to be placed on the south point of a shoal forming the east side of the entrance to the inner port (Nai-Ngalo-Ngalo).

Two beacons, one black, situated on the extremity of a small jetty which prolongs Yellow Point (on the eastern side of the outer port), and the outer white to southward of the preceding.

A black beacon on the north side of the entrance to Walou Creek.

The white buoys can be passed close to, leaving them to starboard, and the black buoys to port.

A small jetty has been constructed at Na Mbukalou, near the church.

Bearings true. Variation, 9° 40′ easterly in 1884.
