The mark above described is designed to be applied to the goods in the casting, or to be struck in to them by means of a die, and also to be printed by means of a stencil or otherwise upon the boxes in which articles manufactured by the said corporation are packed, or upon labels to be attached to said boxes, the said printing to be done in black or coloured inks, as may be at the time desired, or it may be used in a variety of other ways.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

NOTICE is hereby given that Messrs. NEILL AND COMPANY (LIMITED), of the City of Dunedin, in the Colony of New Zealand, have applied, on behalf of Messrs. DURYEA, of Glen Cove, Long Island, New York, United States of America, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” the trade mark of which the following is a description, iz.:

Description of Trade Mark.

The following words printed on yellow paper within a black border: At the top appear the words “United States of America,” underneath the word “United” appears the word “Trade,” and underneath the word “America,” “Mark.” Then follows a picture of Indians preparing maizena, followed by the word “Duryea’s,” and underneath in large letters the word “Maizena,” with on one side the word “Trade” and on the other “Mark,” printed longitudinally, followed by the words “Registered at Stationers’ Hall,” and a description of the preparation of maizena.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

Importation of Stock into New South Wales, except from Australasian Colonies, prohibited.

THE following Proclamation, prohibiting the importation of stock, fodder, or fittings into New South Wales, except from the Australasian Colonies, is published for general information.

PROCLAMATION by His Excellency the Right Honourable Lord AUGUSTUS WILLIAM FREDERICK SPENCER LOFTUS, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, a Member of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Colony of New South Wales and its Dependencies.

WHEREAS by section ten of an Act of the Parliament of New South Wales passed in the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Her present Majesty, intituled “The Imported Stock Act, 1871,” and numbered six, the Governor in Council is empowered, by Proclamation in the Government Gazette, to restrict or absolutely prohibit for any specified time the importation or introduction of any cattle or sheep, fodder, or fittings from any other colony or country in which there is reason to believe that any infectious or contagious disease in stock exists: And whereas there is reason to believe that one or other of the diseases known as rinderpest or foot-and-mouth disease in stock exists in almost every colony or country other than the Colonies of Victoria, South Australia, Queensland, Tasmania, Western Australia, and New Zealand:

Now, therefore, I, Lord Augustus William Frederick Spencer Loftus, the Governor aforesaid, with the advice of the Executive Council, do hereby withdraw the Proclamation dated the fifteenth day of May, one thousand eight hundred and eight-three, under which sheep are admitted from the United States of America, subject to certain conditions therein set forth, and do now restrict and absolutely prohibit, for a period of two years from this date, the importation or introduction of any stock, fodder, or fittings from any colony

or country, other than from the colonies hereinbefore mentioned, into any part of the Colony of New South Wales, except as regards any sheep which may have been shipped from the United States of America previous to the issue of this Proclamation.

Given under my hand and seal, at Government House, Sydney, this twenty-eighth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, and in the forty-seventh year of Her Majesty’s reign.

Notice under “The Native Land Laws Amendment Act, 1883.”

WHEREAS the estate and interest of Te Kirimangu and Te Amo tc Kehu, aboriginal natives of New Zealand, in the land described in the Schedule hereto, is vested in Rihari Uru te Angina and Aromona te Whio, as Trustees under the provisions of “The Maori Real Estate Management Act, 1867,” and the several amendments thereof, subject to certain restrictions on the alienation of such land, and application has been made for the removal of such restrictions:

It is hereby notified that it is intended, immediately after the expiration of sixty days from the publication of this notice in the Gazette and in the Kahiti, to remove the said restrictions on the alienation of the said land in respect of the interests aforesaid, in order that the said lands may be leased by the said Trustees for a term of twenty-one years.

Dated at Wellington, this fifth day of March, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four.

SCHEDULE.

ALL that piece of land containing by admeasurement 91 acres and 16 perches, more or less, situate at Waitotara, in the Provincial District of Wellington, on the left bank of the Waitotara River, and being part of the block of land known as the Kaipo Native Reserve, and being part of the Section numbered 80 on the plan of the Waitotara District.


Notice to Mariners, No. 9 of 1884.

ENTRANCE TO WANGANUI RIVER.

Wellington, N.Z., 12th March, 1884.

THE Wanganui Harbour Board have given notice that, on and after the 1st April, 1884, a white light will be exhibited at the end of the rubble training breakwater, at present being built on the north side of the entrance to the Wanganui River. The light will be about 10 feet above high-water mark, and will be shifted outwards as the work advances. At present it bears from the flagstaff on the top of the Castle Cliff S.W. by W. ½ W., distant 680 feet and 250 feet from the face of the cliff.
