THE following special order, made by the Kaikoura County Council, is published in accordance with “The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882.”

SPECIAL ORDER.
THAT this Council resolves that effect be given, in accordance with the provisions of “The Counties Act, 1876,” and the several amendments thereof, to the prayer of the petition presented, signed by James Gray and 122 other ratepayers, requesting the Council to alter the boundaries of the ridings of the county and to increase the representation of the Suburban and Conway Ridings, and that the necessary steps be taken to have this done by special order, that is to say,—

That the ridings shall, as heretofore, be four in number.

That the boundaries of the Town Riding shall be extended to include Section 224, Kaikoura Suburban; and return two members as heretofore.

That the Conway Riding shall start from the sea on the south side of the Kaikoura Peninsula; thence by a line northward to the southern corner of Section 256, Kaikoura Suburban; thence by a public road to the north-east corner of said Section 256; thence by the public road known as the Kowhai Road to the north-east corner of Section 111, Kaikoura Suburban, across the public road at that point to the south-east corner of Section 94, Kaikoura Suburban; thence by a public road known as the Red Swamp to the north-east corner of Section 88, Kaikoura Suburban; thence in a south-westerly direction by a public road known as the Schoolhouse Road to the Kowhai River: and include all country, runs, and reserves south of the Kowhai, and at present otherwise included in the Conway Riding, returning by the boundaries of such country to the starting point on the south side of the aforesaid Peninsula; and return two Councillors.

That the Suburban Riding shall embrace all the sections west of the road commencing at the north-east corner of Section 263, Kaikoura Suburban, and proceeding from thence to a point on Beach Road at the north corner of Section 152, Kaikoura Suburban; thence westerly along a public road to the north-west corner of Section 153, Kaikoura Suburban; thence in a north-westerly direction to the corner of Section 177, Kaikoura Suburban; thence by the public road to the Waimanarara Stream; thence by the said stream to the present boundary of the Suburban and Clarence Ridings; thence by the said boundary to the Kowhai River; thence by the Conway Riding boundary to the sea; thence by the sea to the present Town Riding boundary; thence by the said town boundary to the starting point: returning three members.

That the Clarence Riding shall include all the remaining portion of the county to the northward of the Suburban Riding; returning two members as at present.
