that he has been informed by Her Majesty's Principal
Secretary of State for the Colonies that the Queen's
exequatur, empowering
HERMANN BROWN, Esq.,
to act as German Consul at Auckland, received Her
Majesty's signature on the 27th August, 1884, and that the
notification of Her Majesty's approval of this appointment
appeared in the London Gazette of the 29th August, 1884.

LIGHT ON NASILAI REEF, VITI LEVU.
FURTHER notice is hereby given that the fixed light to be
exhibited on the 1st October, 1884, will be catoptric, and of
a temporary character. It will be shown from a wooden
structure, painted white, at an elevation of 50 feet above the
sea, and should be visible in clear weather from a distance
of about ten miles.
The light is cut off between the bearings of N.E. by N.
(magnetic) through north to S.W. ¼ W. (magnetic).

DREDGING OPERATIONS, OAMARU HARBOUR.
NOTICE is hereby given that a dredge mooring has been laid
100 fathoms from the end of the breakwater, denoted by a
black buoy.
Vessels passing should give the buoy a berth of at least
20 fathoms.

Alterations and Additions to the Scale of Fares and
Charges in force on New Zealand Railways.
IN accordance with section 144 of "The Public Works
Act, 1882," I, Edward Richardson, Minister for Public
Works, do hereby make the following alterations and addi-
tions to the scale of fares and charges, to come into force on
and after the 17th day of November, 1884 :
PART I.—PASSENGERS.
NEWSPAPER REPORTERS' SEASON TICKETS.
- Season tickets will be issued at half rates to news-
paper reporters, upon application from the proprietor or
manager of the newspaper, specifying the name of the
reporter, and certifying that he is a bonâ fide reporter, per-
manently engaged upon the staff of the newspaper, and not
following any other profession or occupation. Two reporters
will be allowed to travel for the same newspaper for each
£50 ticket taken out.
PART VI.—WHARVES.
GREYMOUTH AND WESTPORT SECTIONS.
Goods for Transhipment.
When goods are landed on wharf ex ship, and redelivered
to other ships, they will be charged 2s. 6d. per ton, according
to ship's manifest, or by weight or measurement, at the
option of the department, including wharfage, handling, and
one week's storage, after which storage will be charged for.
Goods transhipped into lighters or vessels from vessels
lying alongside the wharves, per ton .. .. 1s.
