Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERVOIS;
Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this twenty-eighth day of October, 1884.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS a meeting of the burgesses of the Borough of Wellington was held on the seventeenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, for the purpose of considering and discussing the proposal to borrow the sum of seventy-five thousand pounds for the purpose of constructing a public work known as the “Te Aro Reclamation:” And whereas the Mayor of the borough of the said City of Wellington being unable to preside at the said meeting as required by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876,” one Arthur Winton Brown, a member of the Council of the said borough, presided at the said meeting: And whereas the fact that the said meeting was so presided over was an irregularity in matter of form, and it is expedient that the proceedings at such meeting should be validated so far as the same depends on the status of the person presiding thereat:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, and in exercise and pursuance of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said “Municipal Corporations Act, 1876,” doth hereby order and declare that the proceedings at the said meeting shall be deemed to be valid and effectual so far as the same depends upon the status of the person presiding thereat, notwithstanding the aforesaid irregularity in matter of form.
