THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the Portmaster, Brisbane, is published for general information.

NEW LIGHT, DOUBLE ISLAND POINT.
NOTICE is hereby given that, on and after this date, a revolving light will be exhibited from the highest part of Double Island Point, at an elevation of 315 feet above the sea.
The apparatus is of the third order, holophotal dioptric, and the light, which is visible from a distance of twenty-four miles, attains its greatest brilliancy at intervals of 30 seconds.
The tower from which the light is exhibited is circular, and painted stone colour.

Steam Services to Karamea, and to certain Places South of Hokitika as far as Caswell Sound.
General Post Office,
Wellington, 29th September, 1884.
SEALED tenders will be received at the General Post Office, Wellington, until noon of Saturday, the 25th proximo, for the performance of the following Steam Services, for a period of twelve months, commencing on a date hereafter to be agreed upon:—
Between Nelson and Karamea, and Westport and Karamea, alternately, once every four weeks.
Between Westport, or Greymouth, or Hokitika, and Okarito, Bruce Bay, Paringa, Haast River, Okuru, Jackson’s Bay, and Caswell Sound, calling at such other places as the Postmaster-General may from time to time direct, once every two months.
The services to be performed in accordance with timetables to be furnished by the Postmaster-General, and with the right of renewal for a further period of twelve months by the Postmaster-General, on his giving two months’ prior notice to that effect.
Tenderers to state the rate of passage-money for first- and second-cabin passengers, and the freight per ton for cargo, scheduled under the following heads:—
Personal Effects, Stores, and Provisions.
Farm Produce and other Local Products.
Minerals and Ores.
The rate per head for all descriptions of live stock also to be given.
Tenderers to state the names, tonnage, and horse-power of the vessels to be employed in the service.
The lowest or any tender will not necessarily be accepted.
Tenders to be addressed to the Hon. the Postmaster-General, and indorsed “Tender for Steam Services.”
