Time for Elections, Borough of Thames, extended.
Wm. F. DRUMMOND JERVOIS,
Governor.
ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this sixteenth day of September, 1884.
Present:
His Excellency the Governor in Council.
WHEREAS by “The Municipal Corporations Act, 1876” (hereinafter termed “the said Act”), it is among other things provided that, in any case in which anything is irregularly done in matter of form, the Governor may, by Order in Council gazetted and publicly notified, from time to time make provision for my such case, or may extend the time within which anything is required to be done, so that the true intent and purpose of the said Act may have effect: And whereas elections of Councillors are about to be held for the several wards of the Borough of Thames, called North Ward, Middle Ward, South Ward, and Parawai Ward respectively, but no separate appointments of Returning Officers in respect of the said elections have been made as by law provided, and it is now impossible to hold the said elections within the time limited therefor by the said Act; and it appears expedient to make provision for such case, and to extend the time within which the said elections may be held:
Now, therefore, His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the powers and authorities vested in him by the said Act, and by and with the advice and consent of the Executive Council of the said colony, doth hereby order and declare that the time for elections of Councillors for the several wards before mentioned in the said Borough of Thames shall be and the same is hereby extended until the sixteenth day of October, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four; and, further, that the like appointment shall and may be made, and the like proceedings taken in all respects in relation to the premises, as if the same had been made and taken within the times and in manner limited and provided by the said Act respectively.
