States of America, to register, under “The Trade Marks Act, 1866,” a trade mark of which the following is a description, viz. :

Description of Trade Mark.

A square label on which is the representation of two flags flying from halliards attached to two flagstaffs crossing one another. The flag on the right is a representation of the Union Jack of Great Britain, and that on the left a representation of the Stars and Stripes of the United States of America. In the space between the upper portion of the two crossed flagstaffs are the letters “B.S.,” and in that between their lower extremities are the words “& Co. Trade Mark.”

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.

Quarantine at Ports in Western Australia.

THE following telegram from the Colonial Secretary of Western Australia is published for general information.

This Government will be obliged by your making it known that vessels, passengers, merchandise, &c., arriving at any port in colony, are subjected to a quarantine of twenty-one days from date of leaving Victorian ports.

ENTERPRISE CHANNEL, HERBERT RIVER.—BEACONS REPLACED BY BUOYS.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in consequence of the shifting nature of the sand at the entrance to the Enterprise Channel the two beacons have been replaced by a red and a black buoy.

CLIFFY ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE, BASS STRAITS.

REFERRING to the Notice to Mariners dated the 25th May, 1883, it is now notified that, on and after the 8th September, 1884, a light will be exhibited from the lighthouse on Cliffy Island.

The light is a third order dioptric flashing light, showing red, and giving five flashes and eclipses alternately in every minute; it is elevated 180 feet above the level of the sea, and will be visible in clear weather all round the horizon at a distance of fifteen nautical miles.

The lighthouse is 25 feet high, and constructed of stone.

Position (approximate): Lat. 38° 58′ 10″ S., long. 146° 42′ 24″ E.

Notice to Mariners, No. 41 of 1884.

WESTPORT, BULLER RIVER, WEST COAST OF MIDDLE ISLAND OF NEW ZEALAND.

Wellington, N.Z., 10th September, 1884.

NOTICE is hereby given that on and after Thursday, the 1st January, 1885, an alteration will be made in the light signals at Westport, when the following will be exhibited:—

Harbour light: The present white light will be continued in its present site, south-west side of entrance to the river.

Bar unsafe: A red light seaward of the harbour light.

Bar safe, with seven feet of water thereon: A white light seaward of the harbour light.

Bar safe, with nine feet of water thereon: A green light seaward of the harbour light.

For crossing the bar, the white or the green light, as the case may be, and the harbour light should be kept in one.

During the day the New Zealand bar and danger signals will be used, and also the international code when necessary; and the red masthead flag-signal hitherto shown at tide-time will be discontinued.
