THE following special order, made by the Southland
County Council, is published in accordance with "The
Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882."
THOMAS DICK.
COPY of Special Order passed by the Southland County
Council at Meeting held on the 14th day of February, 1883,
dealing with the Boundaries and Names of Ridings.
THAT this Council do, by this special order, in accordance
with section 36 of "The Counties Act, 1876," and sections 23
and 24 of "The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882,"
alter the boundaries and names of ridings, as set forth in the
Schedule hereto.
SCHEDULE.
MATAURA RIDING.
BOUNDED towards the West by the middle of the Mataura
River; towards the North by Wendon and Greenvale Survey
Districts; towards the East by the Clutha County; again
towards the North by the Clutha County; again towards the
East and North-east by the Clutha County to a point due
East from the south-east corner of Tuturau Survey District;
thence towards the South by a right line due West to the
north-eastern corner of Wyndham Survey District; thence
towards the West by a right line due North to the Mimihau
Stream; and towards the South and South-east by the said
stream to the middle of the Mataura River; excluding that
part of the Town District of Mataura included in the above
area.
HOKONUI RIDING.
Bounded towards the North by Section 512, Hokonui
Survey District, by Section 42, by a road forming the North-
west boundary of Sections 625 and 626; thence by the road
forming the north-eastern boundary of Sections 198 and 148
to the easternmost corner of the last-named section; thence
by a right line to the westernmost corner of Section 202;
thence by Sections 639, 150, 541, 567, 40, and 511, and the
southern boundary of Section 511, produced to the middle of
the Mataura River; towards the East by the middle of the
Mataura River to a point in line with the southern boundary
line of Block IV., Lothian Hundred; towards the South by a
right line to and by the south boundary of the said Block IV.
aforesaid; towards the South-east by the southern side of
the main road from Invercargill to Dunedin; towards the
South-west by the south-west boundary of Mabel Hundred;
towards the North-west by the middle of the Makarewa
River; again towards the North by a right-line due East
from the northern boundary line of Section 190, Forest Hill
Hundred, 174 chains; towards the West by a right line due
North, 200 chains; thence again towards the North-west by
a right line bearing 45Β° to the eastern boundary-line of
Forest Hill Hundred; again towards the West by Forest
Hill Hundred; again towards the South by Forest Hill
Hundred; and again towards the West generally by the
Lora Stream, by Run 148A, by the western boundary of Run
119A, and by Cowan's Creek to Waimea Stream, and by that
stream and the Long-ridge Stream to Section 512 first men-
tioned.
WAIHOPAI RIDING.
Bounded towards the East by the middle of the Mataura
River; towards the South by the ocean; towards the West
by a line, being the continuation of the west boundary of
Block VII., Invercargill Hundred; and by that boundary-
line towards the North-west by Blocks V. and VI., Inver-
cargill Hundred; again towards the West by the latter
block; and again towards the North-west and North by the
Hokonui Riding hereinbefore described.
WALLACETOWN RIDING.
Bounded towards the West by the middle of the Waimu-
tuku Stream; towards the North by the north boundary of
New River Hundred to the Oreti River; towards the East by
the Oreti River; again towards the North by the north
boundary of Blocks XIV., III., IV., and X., New River
Hundred; again on the East by the east boundary of Block
X. aforesaid; towards the South-east by the Makarewa River
to its confluence with the Oreti River; towards the South by
a right line due West from said confluence to the ocean; and
towards the South-west by the ocean.
WINTON RIDING.
Bounded towards the North by the northern boundary-line
of Section 162A, Taringatura Survey District, by Sections
186, 261, and 79 to the south-eastern corner of the last
named section, thence by a right line to and by the south
boundary-line of Section 17, and by Sections 66, 10, and 18;
towards the East by the Oreti River; towards the North-east
generally across the said river by the Town of East Dipton,
by the road intersecting Section 576 and bounding Sections
570 and 571, and by the north-east boundary-line of Section
334, all of Hokonui Survey District, by the north-east
boundary-line of Run 148A., to Hokonui Riding before
described; again towards the East generally by that riding;
towards the South generally by Wallacetown Riding; and
towards the West by Wallace County.
WAKAIA RIDING.
Bounded towards the South by the Mataura Riding herein-
before described; towards the West and South-west by the
Mataura River; towards the North-west by the Lake County;
towards the North by Vincent County; and towards the East
by the Tuapeka and Clutha Counties.
ORETI RIDING.
Bounded towards the South and East by the Hokonui Riding
hereinbefore described; towards the South-west, West, and
again towards the South by the Winton Riding hereinbefore
described; towards the West by the Wallace County; towards
the North-east by the Lake County; and towards the East
by the Wakaia Riding hereinbefore described.
AWARUA RIDING.
Bounded towards the North-west generally by the Wallace-
town and Winton Ridings hereinbefore described; towards
the North-east by the Hokonui Riding hereinbefore described;
towards the East, South-east, and again towards the East by
the Waihopai Riding hereinbefore described; and towards the
South-west generally by Foveaux Straits and the New River
Estuary.
TOETOES RIDING.
Bounded towards the West by the middle of the Mataura
River; towards the North by the Mataura Riding herein-
before described; towards the North-east, East, and South-
east by the Clutha County; and towards the South generally
by the ocean.
I hereby certify that the foregoing special order has been
duly made in accordance with the provisions of section 32 of
"The Counties Act 1876 Amendment Act, 1882."

By-law No. 2, Taratahi-Carterton Road District, County of
Wairarapa West.

THE following by-law, made by the Taratahi-Carterton
Road Board, is published in accordance with "The
Road Boards Act, 1882."
THOMAS DICK.
BY-LAW No. 2 of the TARATAHI-CARTERTON ROAD BOARD,
adopted by the Board at a meeting held the 25th day of
August, 1883.

There shall be appointed an officer to be called the
Ranger, whose duty it shall be to take, or cause to be taken,
to the nearest public Pound all horses, cattle, sheep, pigs,
goats, or other animals found straying on any public road
under the control or jurisdiction of the Board, except such
roads as are enclosed by gates lawfully erected. -
The following fees shall be payable to the Ranger, in
addition to any fees or charges lawfully payable to the Keeper
of the Pound; to wit,-
For every horse, gelding, mare, colt, filly, foal, ass, mule,
bull, ox, cow, heifer, steer, or calf, per head, 1s.
For every ram, ewe, wether, lamb, goat, or pig, per head,
3d. -
On tender of the proper fees as hereinbefore stated, the
Ranger shall have authority to deliver to the respective
owner or owners any animals in course of being taken to the
Pound. -
The Board may pay the Ranger such salary as it shall
think fit, or may, in lieu thereof, order that the whole or any
portion of the fees as hereinbefore stated, with or without the
addition of a fixed salary, shall be paid to him.

The above by-law was this day passed by the Taratahi-
Carterton Road Board.
