HENRY HAWTHORNE GRANT RALFE
to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate's Court at Maclaggan
Street, Dunedin, and Clerk of the Licensing Committees for
the Districts of Dunedin South, Dunedin Bell, Dunedin
Central, and Dunedin Leith, from the 1st September next,
vice J. P. Simpson, transferred; and

JAMES PHILIP SIMPSON
to be Clerk of the Resident Magistrate's Courts at Palmerston
South, Hawkesbury, and Hampden; and Clerk of the
Licensing Committees for the Districts of Dunback, Palmer-
ston, Merton, Hawkesbury, Palmerston South, and West
Hawkesbury, from the 1st September next, vice H. H. G.
Ralfe, transferred.

Letters of Naturalisation, under "The Aliens Act,
1880," in favour of the under-mentioned persons:—

THOMAS DICK.

Bonuses on Colonial Industries.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 2nd February, 1883.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following bonuses will
be paid on articles produced in the Colony of New
Zealand, as under:—

SILK.

A bonus of fifty per cent. on the value realized for the first
thousand pounds' (£1,000) worth of cocoons of the silkworm,
or silkworms' eggs, produced in the colony, to be paid on
quantities of not less value than fifty pounds (£50) nor more
than one hundred pounds (£100) produced by any one person.

MANGANEISEN AND MANGANESE-BRONZE.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for
the first two thousand five hundred pounds' (£2,500) worth of
manganeisen, and a similar bonus for a like amount of man-
ganese-bronze, produced in the colony from New Zealand
ores, and sold at a fair market price in a foreign market.

MARBLE.

A bonus of three hundred pounds (£300) will be given for
the first fifteen hundred pounds (£1,500) worth of New
Zealand marble exported from the colony, and sold in a
foreign market at a price of not less than 9s. per cubic foot.

ANTIMONY.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for
the first 250 tons of antimony regulus produced in the
colony from New Zealand ores, and sold at a fair market
price in a foreign market.

Conditions.

  1. Notice of intention to claim any of the above bonuses
    must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later
    than the 31st December, 1883

  2. The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1884.

  3. The first claimant of any bonus who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the con-
    ditions to be the recipient of the bonus.

  4. The other conditions as to quantity, priority, quality,
    and value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer
    appointed for the purpose by the Government.

Further information and particulars may be obtained by
application at the Colonial Secretary's Office.

WROUGHT-IRON.

A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be given for
the production in New Zealand, by a direct process, of 200
tons of "iron blooms," of marketable quality, from ore pro-
duced in New Zealand.

Conditions.

  1. The bonus not to be given for any quantity less than
    100 tons.

  2. Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and claim the
    bonus must be given to the Colonial Secretary before the 31st
    December, 1883.

  3. The bonus must be claimed before the 31st December,

  4. In the event of more than one claimant giving such
    notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus may be
    claimed by the first producer, and not more than three-tenths
    by the second producer; but, if only one claimant becomes a
    producer on the above conditions, he may claim the whole of
    the bonus.

  5. The iron in respect of which any bonus is claimed, and
    the ore from which it is manufactured, will be examined by
    an officer to be appointed by the Government, who may
    require the production of bonâ fide account-sales of quan-
    tities not less than 100 tons weight, showing that such iron
    has been sold at a fair market price as wrought-iron.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Commissioner of Trade and Customs, Melbourne, is
published for general information.

PORT PHILLIP HEADS.—WRECKAGE.

PILOTS, masters of vessels, and others, are hereby cautioned
to keep a good look-out for floating wreckage when approach-
ing and entering Port Phillip Heads.

They are also requested to report to this office the position
of any such wreckage sighted, and which might prove
dangerous to navigation.

Special (Sinking) Rules under "The Regulation of Mines
Act, 1874."

Mines Department,

THE under-mentioned special rules, to be observed at the
WALLSEND COAL MINE, Greymouth District, are
published in accordance with the provisions of section 31 of
"The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874."

The penalties for the violation of any special rules
established under "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874,"
and for offences against the Act, are provided for in sections
22 to 28, in Part VI.

SINKING RULES.

Manager.

  1. The owners or agents shall employ efficient officers and
    persons in and about the pits, and shall provide sufficient
    machinery, labour, and materials for carrying on the opera-
    tions in a manner conducive to the safety of the persons
    employed.

Enginewright.

  1. The enginewright is required to see that the authorized
    signals are understood and strictly observed by the engine-
    men, banksmen, and sinkers. A copy of such signals must
    be placed in each enginehouse. Any omission properly to
    observe any of the signals will be punishable as an offence
    under the Act.

  2. The enginewright is also required to see that the sinking
    and water tubs, ropes, chains, pulleys, shackles, hooks, and
    other sinking gear are in good working order. Whenever he
