Assumption of the Government of New Zealand by Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS Her Majesty has been graciously pleased, by a Commission passed under the Royal Sign Manual and Signet, bearing date at Windsor, the twenty-eighth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-two, to constitute and appoint me, William Francis Drummond Jervois, to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies:
Now, I, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before His Honour Sir James Prendergast, Knight, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the said Colony, and that I have assumed the said office of Governor and Commander-in Chief in and over the Colony of New Zealand under and by virtue of Her Majesty’s said Commission.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir William Francis Drummond Jervois, Lieutenant-General in Her Majesty’s Army, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Companion of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty’s Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House, at Wellington, this twentieth day of January, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and eighty-three.
