The following remarks apply only to the above four principal boroughs :—
The births were 293 in June, against 265 in May, an increase of 28. The deaths in June were 113, against 81 in May, an
increase of 32.

There were 11 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: five males, aged 83, 78, 76, 74, and 68 died at Auckland;
a female of 70 at Wellington; two males, both 82 years of age, at Christchurch; and three males of 76, 72, and 70 at Dunedin.

Zymotic Diseases.—The deaths from these diseases increased in number from 13 in May to 22 in June. Diphtheria was fatal
in 2 cases in Dunedin, and whooping cough was the cause of the deaths of 5 young children in Christchurch. The number of
deaths from zymotic diseases, 22, is greater than in June, 1882, when the number was 16. Of the 16 in June, 1882, 8 deaths
were from measles and scarlet fever, while no deaths occurred from these causes during last month.

Constitutional Diseases.—These diseases caused 22 deaths, against 21 in the previous month, and 16 in June, 1882. Of
these 22 deaths 6 were attributed to cancer and 14 to phthisis.

Local Diseases.—There was a considerable increase on the deaths from these diseases in June as compared with May, the
numbers having been 43 and 32 respectively. Diseases of the nervous system were more fatal in June. There was also an
increase of 2 in the deaths from heart disease, and an increased mortality from diseases of the respiratory organs.
