Notice to Mariners. No. 15 of 1883.

POSITION OF WHALE ROCK BUOY, ENTRANCE TO BAY OF
ISLANDS.

NOTICE is hereby given that a large buoy, painted white,
has been placed 60 fathoms W.N.W. of the Whale Rock,
at the entrance to the Bay of Islands.

ington, is published for general information.

NEW CALEDONIA.

SHOAL. According to the New South Wales Government
Gazette, No. 439, Captain James Simpson, master of the
schooner "Mabel White," discovered a shoal south-east of
New Caledonia on September 4, 1882, on a voyage from Suva to
Richmond River. Soundings could not be obtained, but at
noon the shoal was rendered distinct by breakers. The vessel
passed the shoal about three-quarters of a mile off. Position:
Latitude, 23° 30′ S.; longitude, 168° 50′ E.

INFORMATION is requested as to the whereabouts of
THOMAS BROWN RESTARICK, formerly of Davenport,
England, who sailed from England in the ship "Helen Denny,"
for Otago, in June, 1877. His age was then about forty-three
years. Any person who can give any information as to his
death or otherwise is requested to communicate with the
Hon. the Colonial Secretary, Wellington.
