Paisley, in the County of Renfrew, North Britain, Sewing Cotton Manufacturers, to register, under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark of which the following is a description, viz.:—
Description of Trade Mark.
A representation of an anchor and cable.
Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade Mark shall apply.
Sewing cotton of all descriptions, crochet, embroidery, and knitting cotton.

NOTICE is hereby given, under section 10 of "The Sheep Act, 1878," that the Governor has been pleased to determine that all that tract of land comprised within the boundaries of Run No. 369, now in the occupation of Messrs. Cargill and Anderson, being partly in the Tapanui and partly in the Dunstan Subdivisions of the Otago Sheep District, shall be included in the Tapanui Subdivision of that district.

Bonuses on Colonial Industries.

NOTICE is hereby given that the following bonuses will be paid on articles produced in the Colony of New Zealand as under:—
Silk.
A bonus of fifty per cent. on the value realized for the first thousand pounds' (£1,000) worth of cocoons of the silkworm, or silk-worms' eggs, produced in the colony, to be paid on quantities of not less value than fifty pounds (£50) nor more than one hundred pounds (£100) produced by any one person.
MANGANESE IRON AND MANGANESE-BRONZE.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for the first two thousand five hundred pounds' (£2,500) worth of manganese, and a similar bonus for a like amount of manganese-bronze, produced in the colony from New Zealand ores, and sold at a fair market price in a foreign market.
MARBLE.
A bonus of three hundred pounds (£300) will be given for the first fifteen hundred pounds' (£1,500) worth of New Zealand marble exported from the colony, and sold in a foreign market at a price of not less than 9s. per cubic foot.
ANTIMONY.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for the first 250 tons of antimony regulus produced in the colony from New Zealand ores, and sold at a fair market price in a foreign market.
Conditions.
- Notice of intention to claim any of the above bonuses must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1883.
- The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1884.
- The first claimant of any bonus who proves to the satisfaction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the conditions to be the recipient of the bonus.
- The other conditions as to quantity, priority, quality, and value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer appointed for the purpose by the Government.

WROUGHT-IRON.
A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be given for the production, in New Zealand, by a direct process, of 200 tons of "iron blooms," of marketable quality, from ore produced in New Zealand.
Conditions.

The bonus not to be given for any quantity less than 100 tons.

Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and claim the bonus must be given to the Colonial Secretary before the 31st December, 1883.

The bonus must be claimed before the 31st December, 1884.

In the event of more than one claimant giving such notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus may be claimed by the first producer; but if only one claimant becomes a producer on the above conditions, he may claim the whole of the bonus.

The iron in respect of which any bonus is claimed, and the ore from which it is manufactured, will be examined by an officer to be appointed by the Government, who may require the production of bond fide account-sales of quantities not less than 100 tons weight, showing that such iron has been sold at a fair market price as wrought-iron.

LIGHT ON INVERCARGILL JETTY, NEW RIVER.
THE New River Harbour Board has given notice that a gas-light, 13 feet above high-water mark, is now exhibited from sunset to sunrise on the end of Invercargill Jetty, and is visible from the commencement of the training-banks at the Upper Pool.

HAURAKI GULF, WHANGAPAROA PASSAGE.
THE rock in Whangaparoa Passage, on which the barque "Thames" recently struck, and which is described in "The New Zealand Pilot" as lying 3 cables distant from Tiritiri Island, has recently been surveyed and found to bear W.S.W., distant 1¼ cables from the high-water mark of the north-west point of Tiritiri Island, with 6 fathoms water all round. It dries nearly 2 feet at low-water springs.

Special Rules under "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874."

THE under-mentioned special rules are published in accordance with the provisions of section 31 of "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874," to be observed at the following quartz mines in the Westport District:—

The penalties for the violation of any special rules under "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874," and for offences against the Act, are provided for in sections 22 to 28, in Part VI.
SPECIAL RULES.
- No officer in a place of trust shall depute another person to do his work without the sanction of his superior; and no person in a place of trust shall absent himself without having previously obtained the permission of his superior officer for his term of absence.
- Intoxicating drinks shall not be allowed in or about the mine without the consent of the manager, and then only in cases of necessity; and no person in a state of intoxication shall be allowed to be in or about the mine.
Manager.
3. The mine manager shall take all reasonable means for carrying out the requirements of the Act and special rules, by publishing and, to the best of his power, enforcing them. He shall be responsible for the appointment of a sufficient number of competent persons to carry out the requirements of the Act and the special rules, and also to see that the working of the mine is carried on with all reasonable provisions for the safety of the persons employed.
4. The mine manager shall see that an adequate amount of ventilation is constantly produced in the mine, to dilute and render harmless noxious gases to such an extent that the working-places of the shafts, levels, stopes, stables, and workings of the mine, and the travelling roads to and from such working-places, shall, so far as is reasonably practicable, be in a fit state for working and passing therein.
5. The manager shall see that an ample supply of timber, props, and other requisite materials are always on the premises, and the "boss" of shift shall see that the same are distributed, and also report any deficiency. The underground manager shal
