are the letters "A.C.," on the right "I.D." in ornamental
capitals. Below, in ornamental capitals, immediately above an
ornament, is the word "Phosphate." The lower part of the
label contains the words "Manufactured under" in shaded
sans-serif capitals, with ornamentation between and ruled line beneath. The
manufacturer's signature, in writing characters, "Prof. E. N.
Horsford, of Cambridge, Mass.," is above the words "Rumford
Chemical Works," in ornamental Roman letters. From the
capital "R" of the word "Rumford" proceeds a series of dotted
lines figuratively representative of the rising sun, and in the
rays of which, in a curve, are the words "by the" in small
sans-serif. At the immediate foot of the label is a device, with
a perpendicular spear-head or arrow-point rising from the
centre, and within the said device the word "Providence" in
sans-serif, and the letters "R.I." underneath in Roman letters,
having a point between each and the letter "I" slanting from
left to right, and on the left side of the spear or arrow-head
"E. N. Horsford, Prest.," and in the right of the before-men-
tioned perpendicular arrow-head or spear "N. D. Arnold Treas,"
both in sans-serif capitals, with plain Roman initial letters. A
smaller label, with directions for use, with a similar bust medal-
lion in light shade, with the words "Benjamin Count Rumford,
born 1753, died 1814," encircling same, is affixed to each bottle
or vessel containing the acid phosphate.

Nature of the Articles to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.

acid phosphate.
