NOTES FOR OCTOBER, 1882.

Auckland.—Mostly fine, with high wind almost throughout, generally from S.W.; heavy N.W. gale on 19th; little rain, the maximum
fall recorded on 25th, 515 in.

Wellington.—On 3rd rain in morning from N.W., heavy showers until night, when it changed to S.W., and brought hail, rain,
thunder, and strong wind; 1.10 in. recorded on 4th, the maximum for month; next two days showery and squally from same quarter; fine
generally from 7th to 21st, wind variable; stormy from N.W. on 17th, and a few light showers; remainder of month showery, with an
occasional fine day; thunder on 22nd; prevailing wind N.W.

Lincoln.—Fine weather with little rain, 50 in. recorded on 4th, the maximum; winds variable and, on the whole, moderate; thunder
on 18th and 22nd; hail on 22nd.

Dunedin.—Changeable showery weather, but small total rainfall, the maximum being 60 in. on 19th; prevailing winds from S.W.
and W., and strong on 17th and 22nd to 25th; thunder on 18th; snow on 24th, and hail on 18th.

GENERAL REMARKS.—Generally showery weather, but no heavy falls of rain; winds westerly, and temperature below the average.
Earthquake felt at Wellington on 20th at 12:19 a.m., slight; brilliant meteors observed on 29th and 30th.

NOTES FOR NOVEMBER, 1882.

Auckland.—Dull cool weather at commencement of month, warmer and brighter towards end; small rainfall, the maximum recorded
on 4th, 855 in.; wind moderate, and prevailed from S.W.

Wellington.—Fine first three days, then showery to 6th; fine on 7th; heavy rain on 8th with thunder, continued showery and cold
next day; fine then to 13th, followed by three showery days, wind S.E.; from 17th to 23rd fine bright weather, wind S.E. and N.W., and
moderate; on 24th wind changed from N.W. to S.W., and brought rain, which continued to 26th, changing to S.E.; remainder of month
fine from N.W.; prevailing winds from S.E. and N.W. and generally moderate; stormy on 7th from N.W.

Lincoln.—Showery in middle and towards end of month; total rainfall much above average, the most recorded on 5th, 1.80 in.;
moderate winds and variable; hail on 9th.

Dunedin.—Generally pleasant weather with light showers; the maximum rainfall recorded on 14th, 440 in.; strong S.W. wind on 26th,
otherwise moderate and variable; thunder and hail on 25th.

GENERAL REMARKS.—On the whole fine weather with moderate rainfall and variable winds; earthquake felt at Wellington on 18th, at
11.4 p.m., slight, and on 25th, at 10.5 p.m., smart; aurora between 17th and 20th, and meteor on 29th.

NOTES FOR DECEMBER, 1882.

Auckland.—Fine warm and dry weather prevailed; no heavy rain or high wind; the maximum rainfall recorded on 19th, 60 in.;
prevailing winds westerly.

Wellington.—Showery on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, and very close from N.W.; from 5th to 10th pleasant weather, with cool breezes from S.
and S.W.; fine from 11th to 17th, but very strong N.W. wind; heavy rain on 18th; 70 in. recorded on 19th, the maximum for month;
still stormy on 20th and 21st from N.W.; from 22nd to 26th fine and pleasant wind, N.W. and N.E.; rather stormy on 25th from N.W.;
27th, 28th, 29th, showery, wind N.W. and S.W.; fine at close of month, wind S.E.

Lincoln.—Fine with a few light showers until the close of the month, when it rained rather heavily, 1.302 in. recorded on 28th, being the
maximum fall; moderate winds and variable; hail on 27th.

GENERAL REMARKS.--Fine at most places in the North, with little rain and moderate winds prevailing from N.W., but wet dull
weather with light winds in the South.
