Application for Registration of Trade Mark.

Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 4th April, 1883.

NOTICE is hereby given that Messrs. SMITH AND SMITH,
Oil and Colourmen, of Dunedin, have applied to register,
under "The Trade Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark of which
the following is a description, viz. :-

Description of Trade Mark.

A label of any colour or any size, with the following printed
thereon: "Champion Mixed Paints," ready for use, manu-
factured by the Champion Paint Company. These paints are
of the very best quality, and are suitable for every kind of
work. On a clean surface they will dry hard in eight or ten
hours.

Directions.

Stir the paint well before using. If required thinner, for
inside work use linseed oil and turpentine, if for outside work
use raw or boiled linseed oil and no turpentine. Paint will not
dry on dirty, greasy, and smoky places, therefore clean all old
work with soda, soap, and hot water, and in places which are
much smoked, such as mantlepieces or kitchens, a coat of hot
lime is sometimes necessary, which should be well rubbed off
next day, and then proceed with the painting. When painting
new work, first coat the knots with knotting or spirit varnish,
then give the work the priming or first coat; when dry, rub
down with glass-paper, stop all holes and cracks with putty, and
go on with the next coat. New work generally requires three
coats.

Graining work: Paint with buff-coloured paint as many coats
as required. When dry, give a very thin coat of graining colour
(the less put on the better), which may be combed only, or
grained, according to the skill of the worker. A coarse hair-
comb, with a small piece of calico drawn over it, will do in the
absence of proper graining-combs. When dry, give a coat of
dark varnish on inside work, and two coats on outside work.

Nature of the Article to which it is intended such Trade
Mark shall apply.

Mixed paints.

THOMAS DICK,
Colonial Secretary and Registrar of Trade Marks.
