PATENT for Butler's Hanging Stage.
JOHN ANGELICUS THOMAS BUTLER, of Auckland, in the
Colony of New Zealand, Oil and Colour Merchant, has
deposited at this office a specification of the said invention;
and I have appointed Thursday, the 1st day of May next, at
11 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the said
application and all objections thereto; and I require all
persons having an interest in opposing the grant of such
Letters Patent to leave, on or before the 16th day of April
next, at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to the said application, otherwise they will be precluded
from urging the same.

WILLIAM MCLAUGHLIN, of Puhinui, near Otahuhu, in the
Provincial District of Auckland and Colony of New Zealand,
Engineer, and WILLIAM DUNWOODIE, of Onehunga, in the
said provincial district, Engineer, have deposited at this office
a specification of the said invention; and I have appointed

Examination for the Civil Service of India.

ON the 3rd June, 1884, and following days, an examina-
tion, open to all qualified persons, will be held in
London. Persons desirous to be admitted as candidates
must apply on forms which may be obtained from "The
Secretary, Civil Service Commission, London, S.W.," or from
the undersigned.
The forms must be returned so as to be received at the
office of the Civil Service Commissioner in London on or
before the 31st March, 1884.

IN conformity with the twenty-fourth clause of the Gold-
Mining Leases Regulations it is hereby notified that
the under-mentioned certificate has been declared void,
and that the land is now open for application or occupation
by holders of miners' rights as if no lease of the same had
ever been applied for :--

IN conformity with the thirty-seventh section of "The
Mines Act, 1877," and with the regulations made
under that Act for the granting of leases for gold-mining
purposes, it is hereby notified that it is intended to grant a
lease of Crown lands for gold-mining purposes to the appli-
cant specified in the annexed Schedule, unless there shall be
valid objections against such lease.
Objections to the granting of such lease, stating the
grounds of objection, must be made in writing, and lodged
with the Warden at Arrow on or before the 9th day of
January, 1884.
Copy of the application made and plan annexed may be
seen at the Warden's Office at Arrow.
SCHEDULE.
Applicant: William Mackay. Style under which it is in-
tended to conduct the business: "The Albion Gold-Mining
Company." 10 acres, in the Wakatipu Mining District.
