THE NEW ZEALAND GAZETTE.

LINSEED OIL.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for the
production, by machinery permanently established in New
Zealand, of the first 10,000 gallons of oil, of good marketable
quality, from linseed grown in the colony.

OIL-CAKE.
A bonus of one hundred pounds (£100) will be given for the
production of the first 50 tons of oil-cake, of good marketable
quality, from linseed grown in the colony.

BUTTER OR CHEESE.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for the
first 25 tons of butter or the first 50 tons of cheese (produced
in one factory) which shall be exported from New Zealand,
and sold at such prices in a foreign market as shall show
that the articles are of fair quality.

STARCH.
A bonus of three hundred pounds (£300) will be given on
the first 50 tons of starch, manufactured in the colony,
which shall be shipped to an English market, and for which
a satisfactory certificate shall be given by dealers or brokers
in England that the starch is of good marketable quality.

PRINTING-PAPER.
A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be given for the
production of the first 50 tons of printing-paper made by
machinery permanently established and working in the
colony. The bonus will be paid to the producer who effects
the first bonâ fide sale of the amount of printing-paper
specified.

Conditions.

  1. Notice of intention to claim any of the above bonuses
    must be given in writing to the Colonial Secretary not later
    than the 31st December, 1883.
  2. The claim must be made before the 30th June, 1884.
  3. The first claimant of any bonus who proves to the satis-
    faction of the Government that he has fulfilled all the con-
    ditions to be the recipient of the bonus.
  4. The other conditions as to quantity, priority, quality,
    and value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer
    appointed for the purpose by the Government.

    application at the Colonial Secretary's Office.

Revocation of Appointment of a Bonding Warehouse.

CUSTOMS.-In exercise of the authority in me for this
purpose vested, I, the Commissioner of Trade and
Customs, do, by this order under my hand, revoke and annul
the appointment of the under-mentioned warehouse for the
reception and security of goods entered to be warehoused
without payment of duty upon the first entry thereof,
namely:-

Port of Auckland.
The cellar of a warehouse situated in Customhouse Street
East, on part of Subdivision 5, Section No. 2, on the plan of
the City of Auckland, known as
JAGGER'S BOND.

Given under my hand at Wellington, this thirteenth
day of November, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-three.

Approving and appointing Bonding Warehouses.

CUSTOMS.-In exercise of the powers in me for this
purpose vested by "The Customs Laws Consolidation
Act, 1882," I, the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, do
hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned warehouses,
namely:-

Port of Wellington.
The cellar No. 2 under the building known as "Bellamy's,"
situated at the Parliament Buildings, in the City of Wel-
lington;

Port of New Plymouth.
A corrugated iron building, with corrugated iron roof,
situated on the Customhouse Reserve at Waitara West,
Sections Nos. 10 and 12;
-to be warehouses for the reception of goods under bond.

Given under my hand at Wellington, this thirteenth
day of November, one thousand eight hundred
and eighty-three.

Time and Place of First Meeting of Otago Harbour Board
appointed.

Marine Department,
Wellington, 13th November, 1883.

HIS Excellency the Governor has, in pursuance of the
provisions of "The Harbours Act, 1878," been pleased
to appoint Friday, the 16th instant, at 3 p.m., as the time,
and the Board's office at Dunedin as the place, for the first
meeting of the Otago Harbour Board, as constituted under
"The Otago Harbour Board Act, 1883."

DREDGING OPERATIONS, PORT OF LYTTELTON.

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from the
Lyttleton Harbour Board, is published for general
information.

THE Lyttelton Harbour Board direct special attention to the
dredging operations now proceeding outside the Lyttelton
Breakwaters, and caution all masters of steamers and sailing-
vessels to take the entrance to the southward and westward
of the dredge and her moorings, on which side a red flag will
be shown in the day-time, and at night-time two lights (green
over white) will be shown.
Attention is also directed to Harbour Regulation No. 102.

Special Rules under "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874."

Mines Department,
Wellington, 7th November, 1883.

THE under-mentioned special rules are published in ac-
cordance with the provisions of section 31 of "The
Regulation of Mines Act, 1874," to be observed at the follow-
ing quartz mines in the Westport District:-

Just-in-Time.
Imperial.

WM. ROLLESTON,
Minister of Mines.

The penalties for the violation of any special rules esta-
blished under "The Regulation of Mines Act, 1874," and for
offences against the Act, are provided for in sections 22 to 28,
in Part VI.

SPECIAL RULES.

  1. No officer in a place of trust shall depute another
    person to do his work without the sanction of his superior;
    and no person in a place of trust shall absent himself without
    having previously obtained the permission of his superior
    officer for his term of absence.
  2. Intoxicating drinks shall not be allowed in or about the
    mine without the consent of the manager, and then only in
    cases of necessity; and no person in a state of intoxication
    shall be allowed to be in or about the mine.

Manager.

  1. The mining manager shall take all reasonable means for
    carrying out the requirements of the Act and special rules,
    by publishing and, to the best of his power, enforcing them.
    He shall be responsible for the appointment of a sufficient
    number of competent persons to carry out the requirements
    of the Act and the special rules, and also to see that the
    working of the mine is carried on with all reasonable pro-
    visions for the safety of the persons employed.
  2. The mining manager shall see that an adequate amount
    of ventilation is constantly produced in the mine, to dilute
    and render harmless noxious gases to such an extent that
    the working-places of the shafts, levels, stopes, stables, and
    workings of the mine, and the travelling roads to and from
    such working-places, shall, so far as is reasonably practic-
    able, be in a fit state for working and passing therein.
  3. The mining manager shall see that an ample supply of
    timber, props, and other requisite materials are always on
    the premises, and the boss of shift shall see that the same
    are distributed, and also report any deficiency. The under-
    ground manager shall see that the roof and the sides in all
    working-places are properly secured by the persons per working
    in them, and that the roof and sides of every travelling road
    be made and kept secure.
