Tenders for Inland Mail Services.

Wellington, 9th October, 1883.

SEALED tenders will be received at the Chief Post Office, Christchurch, until Wednesday, 31st October, for the conveyance of mails between the under-mentioned places from 1st January to 31st December, 1884:—

Hinds and Lismore, twice weekly.
Yaldhurst and Hornby, daily.
Courtenay and Kirwee, daily.
Halkett Town and Rolleston, via West Melton, daily.
Halkett Town and Aylesbury, daily.
West Melton and Rolleston, daily.

Forms of tender, with the terms and conditions of contract, may be procured at any post-office.

Tenders, marked “ Tender for Mail Service, No. ,” to be addressed to the Postmaster-General, Wellington, and enclosed to the Chief-Postmaster, Christchurch.

Sittings of Supreme Court.

WE, three Judges of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, in pursuance of the powers vested in us by “The Supreme Court Act, 1882,” hereby make the following rule respecting the places and times for holding sittings of the Supreme Court in the Judicial District of Wellington.

Sittings for the trial of criminal and civil cases, and of causes under the Divorce and Matrimonial Causes Act, will be held at the Courthouse, Napier, to commence at half-past 10 a.m., on Monday, the 26th November, instead of Monday, the 10th December.

Dissolution of Company.

In the matter of “The Companies Act, 1882;” and in the matter of the affidavit and application of George William Moss, of Greymouth, in the Provincial District of Westland, Secretary of the Grey River Steam Tug Company (Limited).

I HEREBY notify that no objection to such application having been made and lodged with me as by the said Act required, I do now declare such company to be dissolved.

PURSUANT to the provisions of an Act of the General Assembly of New Zealand, passed in the forty-fourth year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Victoria, and intituled “The Marriage Act, 1880,” the following name of an Officiating Minister within the meaning of the said Act is published for general information:—

Te Makarini Scholarships.

THREE Scholarships of the annual value of £35 each, to be held at the Native College, Te Aute, Hawke’s Bay, are offered for competition to Maori or half-caste youths, on the conditions laid down in the Regulations of the Trustees of the Te Makarini Scholarships Fund. The examination will be held at convenient centres on the 17th and 18th of December, 1883.

Candidates must, either directly or through their teachers, send notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education Department, Wellington, of their intention to present themselves for examination. Such notice must be posted not later than the 31st October next.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may be obtained from teachers of Native schools and boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education Boards, or the Secretary to the Education Department.

Gold Fields Notices.

Rewards offered for the Discovery of new Gold Fields.

Wellington, 17th October, 1883.

REWARDS are offered for the discovery of new gold fields, upon the conditions set forth hereunder, payable out of the parliamentary vote of £2,500.

CONDITIONS.

  1. The maximum sum offered as a reward for any proved discovery of a new gold field in accordance with these conditions is £500; but, if the total sum claimed as rewards in any one year exceeds the parliamentary vote, the amount available only will be divided equally.

  2. The newly-discovered gold field, if in alluvial ground, must be situated not less than 15 miles from the nearest alluvial gold workings, or, if in quartz, not less than 10 miles from the nearest existing quartz mines.

  3. No grant will be paid upon any application until it shall have been proved that not less than 20,000 ounces of gold have been extracted from the new gold field within two years from the registration of the discovery, if in alluvial workings, and if in quartz workings, proof of a similar yield from this source within three years from such registration will be required.

  4. Any person discovering new gold workings, and being desirous of obtaining a reward, shall immediately forward a written report of such discovery, with full particulars, to the Warden or Resident Magistrate of the district within which such discovery shall be situated, and the Warden or Resident Magistrate shall forthwith register the report as an application for reward.

  5. No application for reward will be received for registration under these conditions after twelve months from the date of this notification.

  6. No prospecting is allowed upon Native land without the approval in writing of the Native Minister, or of some one appointed by him in that behalf.

Prospectors going upon Native land without the consent of the owners are liable to the penalties imposed by the Acts relating to gold fields, and will forfeit all claim to reward.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to pronounce the under-mentioned gold-mining leases cancelled, and that the ground is now open for application as if no leases of the said ground had ever been applied for:—
