lands are eighteen miles north of Gisborne by a
formed road. The general nature of the surface is
broken, but with numerous flats suitable for home-
stead and agricultural purposes. The vegetation is
fern, tutu, and other scrub, with a good deal of grass
in places. The forest found in most of the gullies is
mixed, but with some totara, matai, and other fencing
timbers. The soil is generally good.
