Scale of Fares, Rates and Charges on the New Zealand Railways.
I, WALTER WOODS JOHNSTON, Minister for Public Works, in pursuance of the powers conferred upon
me by section 144 of "The Public Works Act, 1882," and all other powers in anywise enabling me
in that behalf, do hereby fix the following scale of fares, rates, and charges to be paid on the New Zealand
Railways, to come into force on the 11th of December, 1882, from which date all previous scales are
declared to be hereby revoked.
As witness my hand this thirteenth day of November, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-
two.

PART I.—PASSENGERS.
I.—ORDINARY TICKETS.
FIRST CLASS, SINGLE ... 3D. PER MILE. MINIMUM CHARGE... 6D.
SECOND " " ... 2D. " " ... 4D.
FIRST CLASS, RETURN ... 4D. " " ... 9D.
SECOND " " ... 3D. " " ... 6D.
CHILDREN UNDER 3 YEARS OF AGE TRAVEL FREE.
" " 12 " " HALF RATES.
Mileage for Return Tickets is to be counted one way only.
Return Tickets will be available for return for distances of 25 miles and under on
the day of issue only; for each additional 25 miles or fraction thereof, one day's
extension of time will be allowed for the return journey. When a Sunday intervenes
in the time for which they are available such Sunday will not be reckoned.
No return or periodical ticket will be available for special or for excursion trains,
except when the ordinary time table is suspended.
Ordinary Single Tickets will be available on the day of issue only. Single tickets
issued on Saturdays and Sundays will be available for the return journey until the
end of the following Monday.
Flag Station Tickets will be issued only to the next Booking Station.
Passengers getting into the Train at a Booking Station without a Ticket will be
charged One Shilling in addition to the ordinary fare.
II.—SEASON TICKETS AND SCHOOL TICKETS.
Application for Season and School Tickets must be made to the Manager of the
line, upon a form to be obtained at any Station.
All School Tickets will be issued and dated as from the first day only of each
quarter.
