Application for Patent.
Patent Office,
Wellington, 30th October, 1882.
PATENT for an Improvement in the Clips or
Clamps for fastening the carriages, boxes,
buckets, or other vessels containing loads to the wire
or other rope employed in wire or other rope tram-
ways, used for transporting loads from one point to
another by gravitation or by any other motive power;
also of Guide Bars or Whiskers placed at the inter-
mediate points of support of the said rope to prevent
said carriages, boxes, buckets, or other vessels from
being driven into contact with the said point of sup-
port by the action of the wind or from any other
cause; also of an Improvement in the Drum, Wheel,
or Sheave fixed at each end or terminus of the said
rope; and also of a Movable Carriage upon which the
drum, wheel, or sheave of the lower terminus is
fixed. The said invention to be called "Jones's
Patent for Improvements in Wire or other Rope
Tramways."
EDGAR CHICHESTER JONES, of Wellington, in the
Colony of New Zealand, Engineer, has deposited at
this office a specification of the said invention; and I
have appointed Friday, the 5th day of January next,
at 10 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear
the said application and all objections thereto; and I
require all persons having an interest in opposing
the grant of such Letters Patent to leave, on or
before the 21st day of December next, at this office,
particulars in writing of their objections to the said
application, otherwise they will be precluded from
urging the same.

Institution for the Deaf-and-Dumb, Sumner.
APPLICATIONS for appointment to the office of
Assistant-Master in this institution will be
received by the Director, at Sumner, near Christ-
church, up to the 15th November next. The salary
will be either £110 with board, &c., or £150 without
board.
Applications must be accompanied with testi-
monials, and particulars as to age, &c. A teacher
holding a certificate of Class D from the Education
Department would be preferred. The person ap-
pointed will be required to enter on his duties at the
new year.

Standing Orders on Local Bills.
THE following amended Standing Orders of the
Houses of the General Assembly relative to
Local Bills are published for general information.

Local Bills are those which, not being Private
Bills, affect particular localities only. -
No Local Bill shall be read a second time unless
notice shall have been given of the said Bill in the
locality to which the Bill refers. Such notice shall
state explicitly the object which such Bill is intended
to effect, and shall have been published once at least
in each of three successive weeks before the second
reading in a newspaper circulating in such locality. -
At the time of the first publication of such
notice, a copy of the Bill shall be deposited in the
Resident Magistrate's Court of the district, and shall
be open to public inspection. -
When it is intended in such Bill to take power
to deal with any lands, plans or surveys of such lands,
on a scale of not less than two inches to a mile, and
certified by an authorized surveyor, shall be deposited
with the Bill. -
In the case of Bills authorizing the construction
of harbour works, or the raising of further loans for
the completion of harbour works previously autho-
rized, such Bill shall be accompanied by a statement
of the financial position of the promoters, an estimate
of the cost of construction, and the estimated in-
creased revenue to be derived from the proposed
works, together with the plans or surveys before
mentioned. -
Before the Bill is introduced into the Legisla-
tive Council or House of Representatives, the before-
mentioned plans or surveys and estimates shall be
forwarded to the office of the Clerk of the House in
which the Bill is to be initiated.
Crown Lands Notices.

IT is hereby notified that the Commissioners ap-
pointed in pursuance of section 75 of "The
Land Act, 1877," have reported to His Excellency
the Governor that the land described in the Schedule
hereto shall be classified as pastoral land, and the
Governor has determined that the same shall be dis-
posed of as pastoral land upon deferred payments,
as provided by sections 76 to 86 inclusive of "The
Land Act, 1877."

Leases of Southland Runs to be sold by Auction.
Crown Land Office,
Invercargill, 7th October, 1882.
THE following Licenses of Runs, for a term of ten
years, commencing the 1st March, 1883, will be
offered by auction, at the Land Office, Invercargill,
at noon, on Wednesday, the 20th December next
(the upset rental of 2d. per acre per annum), under
the general conditions contained in "The Land Act,
1877," and "The Land Act 1877 Amendment Act,
1879." Plans showing boundaries can be seen at
Land Offices throughout the colony :-
Run 119B, about 2,700 acres, known as Lora
Station, Southland County, Hokonui District. Up-
set rent, £22 10s. per annum. License fee, £5.
Run 148, about 9,650 acres, known as Benmore
Station, Southland County, Hokonui District. Up-
set rent, £80 8s. 4d. per annum. License fee, £7
10s.
Run 148A, about 8,950 acres, adjoining above.
Upset rent, £74 11s. 8d. per annum. License fee,
£7 10s.
