The following remarks apply only to the above four principal boroughs :—
The births were 245 in July, against 230 in June, an increase of 15.
The deaths in July were 81, against 95 in June, a decrease of 14.
There were 7 deaths of persons of 65 years and upwards: two females of 89 died at Auckland; 2 males of 75 and 67 at
Wellington; a male of 67 at Christchurch; and two females of 66 and 65 at Dunedin.

Zymotic Diseases. These diseases caused 15 deaths in July, against 16 in June. In June, 15 of the 16 deaths were
included in the order of miasmatic diseases, but in July only 12, two deaths in July having been directly attributable to
alcoholism. There was an absence in July of any deaths from fever, but 4 deaths (in Auckland) occurred from measles.
Constitutional Diseases. The deaths from diseases of this class were 10 in July, against 16 in June. The deaths from
cancer were 3 in July, against 6 in June; and from phthisis, 6 in July, against 7 in June.
