the purpose of being reared and maintained in the
colony; the number of any importation to be not
less than ten nor more than fifty.

BUTTER OR CHEESE.

A bonus of five hundred pounds (£500) will be
given for the first 25 tons of butter or the first 50
tons of cheese (produced in a factory worked on the
American principle, and to which factory any farmer,
subject to certain conditions, may send his milk)
which shall be exported from New Zealand, and sold
at such prices in a foreign market as shall show that
the articles are of fair quality.

Conditions.

  1. Notice of intention to claim any of the above
    bonuses must be given in writing to the Colonial
    Secretary not later than the 31st December, 1882.
  2. The claim must be made before the 30th June,
  3. The other conditions as to quantity, quality, and
    value to be fulfilled to the satisfaction of an officer
    appointed for the purpose by the Government.
  4. Further information and particulars may be
    obtained by application to the Colonial Secretary's
    Office.

IRON.

A bonus of one thousand pounds (£1,000) will be
given for the production, in New Zealand, of 300
tons of pig-iron, of marketable quality, from ore pro-
duced in New Zealand.

Conditions.

  1. The bonus not to be given for any quantity less
    than 100 tons.
  2. Notice of the intention to erect ironworks and
    claim the bonus must be given to the Colonial Secre-
    tary before the 31st December, 1882.
  3. The bonus must be claimed before the 31st De-
    cember, 1883.
  4. In the event of more than one claimant giving
    such notice, not more than seven-tenths of the bonus
    may be claimed by the first producer, and not more
    than three-tenths by the second producer; but if
    only one claimant becomes a producer on the above
    conditions, he may claim the whole of the bonus.
  5. The iron in respect of which any bonus is
    claimed, and the ore from which it is manufactured,
    will be examined by an officer to be appointed by the
    Government, who may require the production of
    bonâ fide account sales of quantities not less than
    100 tons weight, showing that such iron has been
    sold at a fair market price as pig-iron.

all duplicate certificates authorizing the issue of
licenses, the fees in respect of which are not payable
to the fund of any county, borough, or road district,

THE following Notice to Mariners, received from
the Commissioner of Trade and Customs, Mel-
bourne, is published for general information.

PORT PHILLIP BAY. TIDAL SIGNALS, SOUTH
CHANNEL.

PILOTS, masters of vessels, and others are hereby
informed that, on and after Monday, the 24th July
next, the following tidal signals will be exhibited
from the Pile Lighthouse, South Channel, Port Phillip
Bay, indicating the depth of water in the deepest or
northern side of such channel, in the vicinity of the
Pile Light :-

From Sunrise to Sunset (low-water springs) : One
blue flag, 25 feet; one ball, 25 feet 6 inches; one
ball with blue flag over, 26 feet; one ball with blue
flag under, 26 feet 6 inches; two balls, 27 feet; two
balls with red flag under, 27 feet 6 inches; two balls
with red flag over, 28 feet; two balls with red flag
between, 28 feet 6 inches; one red flag, 29 feet.

From Sunset to Sunrise (low-water springs) : One
green light, 25 feet; one white light, 25 feet 6 inches;
one white light with green light over, 26 feet; one
white light with green light under, 26 feet 6 inches;
two white lights, 27 feet; two white lights with red
light under, 27 feet 6 inches; two white lights with
red light over, 28 feet; two white lights with red
light between, 28 feet 6 inches; one red light, 29 feet.

Approving and appointing Bonding Warehouses.

CUSTOMS.-In exercise of the powers in me for
this purpose vested by "The Customs Regula-
tion Act, 1858," I, the Commissioner of Customs, do
hereby approve and appoint the under-mentioned
warehouses, viz.,-

Port of Auckland.

Portion of a brick building with iron roof, situate
in Lorne Street, upon part of Allotment No. 17,
Section 14, of the City of Auckland, to be known as

MASON'S PERFUMERY BOND.

Port of Oamaru.

The back portion of the lower story of a stone
building situate on Section 1, Block XCV., on the
west side of Thames Street, in the Town of Oamaru,
having an entrance in Medway Street, to be known as

HUMPHREY'S BOND,

-to be warehouses for the reception of goods under
bond.

Given under my hand, at Wellington, this
twenty-fourth day of July, one thousand
eight hundred and eighty-two.
