for the election of a Member to serve in the House
of Representatives of New Zealand for the electoral
district hereinafter specified, and by the indorse-
ment on such writ it appears that the under-men-

WALTER GREENSHIELDS, of Auckland, has
deposited at this office a specification of the said
invention; and I have appointed Friday, the 6th
day of October next, at 10 o'clock in the forenoon, at
this office, to hear the said application and all objec-
tions thereto; and I require all persons having an
interest in opposing the grant of such Letters Patent
to leave, on or before the 2nd day of October next,
at this office, particulars in writing of their objections
to the said application, otherwise they will be pre-
cluded from urging the same.

JOHN TURNBULL THOMSON, of Invercargill, New
Zealand, Civil Engineer, has deposited at this office a
specification of the said invention; and I have ap-
pointed Friday, the 29th day of September next, at
10 o'clock in the forenoon, at this office, to hear the
said application and all objections thereto; and I
require all persons having an interest in opposing the
grant of such Letters Patent to leave, on or before
the 25th day of September next, at this office, parti-
culars in writing of their objections to the said appli-
cation, otherwise they will be precluded from urging
the same.

Officiating Ministers for 1882.—Notice No. 14.

PURSUANT to the provisions of an Act of the
General Assembly of New Zealand, passed in
the forty-fourth year of the reign of Her Majesty
Queen Victoria, and intituled "The Marriage Act,
1880," the following names of Officiating Ministers
within the meaning of the said Act are published for
general information :-

Church of the Province of New Zealand, commonly
called the Church of England.
The Reverend Edward Litton Carus-Wilson.

Roman Catholic Church.
The Reverend James O'Neill.

Baptists.
The Reverend George Johnston.

Te Makarini Scholarships.

THREE scholarships, to be held at the Native
College, Te Aute, Hawke's Bay, are offered by
the Trustees of the fund instituted in memory of the
late Sir Donald McLean for promoting the higher
education of Maori youths.

Two of these scholarships are open to any Maori
or half-caste whose age on the 30th November, 1882,
shall not exceed fifteen years, and who shall have
attended a Native college or school for the preceding
twelve months. The remaining scholarship is open
to any Maori or half-caste whose age on the 30th
November, 1882, shall not exceed thirteen years, and
who shall have attended a Native village school for
the preceding twelve months.

The scholarships are of the annual value of £35,
and are tenable for two years from the 1st January,
1883.

The examination will be held at convenient centres
on the 18th and 19th December, 1882. Candidates
must, either directly or through their teachers, send
notice to the Inspector of Native Schools, Education
Department, Wellington, of their intention to pre-
sent themselves for examination. Such notice must
be posted not later than the 31st October.

Copies of the regulations and forms of notice may
be obtained from teachers of Native schools and
boarding institutions, the Secretaries to Education
Boards, or the Secretary to the Education Depart-
ment.

Certificated Accountant in Bankruptcy appointed.

NOTICE.—Mr. JAMES JAMIESON, of Wellington,
has been appointed by his Honor the Chief
Justice a Certificated Accountant in Bankruptcy
within the Wellington Judicial District, under "The
Debtors and Creditors Act, 1876."

NOTICE.—JOHN BRIDGES, of No. 5, Nicholas
Lane, Lombard Street, in the City of London,
a practising Notary Public, has been appointed this
day, by his Honor the Chief Justice, a Commissioner
of the Supreme Court of New Zealand, in the said
City of London, under "The Commissioners of the
Supreme Court Act, 1875," for the purpose of taking
acknowledgments of married women under any Act
