HIS Excellency the Governor has been pleased to
accept the resignation of the commissions held
by the under-mentioned officers :-
Canterbury Yeomanry Cavalry Volunteers.
Lieutenant Thomas Stephen Lewis. Date of resig-
nation, 10th April, 1882.
Makara Rifle Volunteers.
Lieutenant Stephen Lancaster. Date of resigna-
tion, 17th April, 1882.
Hawera Rifle Volunteers.
Captain Isaac Bayly. Date of resignation, 12th

Notifying Changes in the Stock Department.—Notice

THE following changes in the Stock Department
are published for general information :-
The services of JOHN IVO GERSE, as Inspector of
Sheep, Deputy Cattle Inspector, and Registrar of
Brands, have been dispensed with, from the 14th
February, 1882.
In the Wellington Sheep and Cattle Districts.
Inspector WILLIAM MACKENZIE has been removed
from the Wanganui to the Wellington Subdivision,
at reduced salary, from the 16th February, 1882.
In the Auckland Sheep and Cattle Districts.
Mr. EDWARD ROBSON has been appointed from the
1st May, 1882, to be an Inspector of Sheep and
Deputy Cattle Inspector.
Inspector E. ROBSON has been appointed from the
1st May, 1882, to take charge of the Bay of Plenty
Subdivision, and to reside at Tauranga, vice In-
spector Campbell Thomson, transferred to Marsden
Subdivision.
In the Marlborough and Waiau Sheep and Cattle
Districts.
Mr. GRATTAN SHERWOOD COOKE has been appointed,
from the 30th September, 1881, to be an Inspector
of Sheep and a Deputy Cattle Inspector.

Member of Geraldine County Council elected Com-
missioner of the Timaru Hospital.

NOTICE has been received at this office, under the
hand of the Clerk of the Geraldine County
Council, that, on the 26th instant,
JOHN CRAIG MCKERROW, Esq.,
was elected by the said County Council to be a
Member of the Board of Commissioners charged with
the management of the Timaru Hospital, vice the
Chairman of the Geraldine County Council, resigned.

Examination, &c., of Naval Cadets.

Majesty's Principal Secretary of State for the
Colonies, is published for general information.

SIR,—I have the honor to transmit to you, for in-
formation in the colony under your Government,
copies of revised regulations respecting the ex-
amination and entry of naval cadets, which will
come into force for the examination taking place in
June next.
I have been requested by the Lords Commissioners
of the Admiralty to call attention to the alteration
made in paragraph 9, whereby colonial cadets will
in future be required to obtain five-tenths of the
marks in arithmetic, instead of four-tenths as here-
tofore.

REGULATIONS RESPECTING NAVAL CADETS.—(FOR
THE INFORMATION OF CANDIDATES.)
- Appointments to naval cadetships will be made
by limited competition, with the under-mentioned
exceptions:-
Four cadetships given annually to sons of gentle-
men in the colonies, on the recommendation
of the Secretary of State for the Colonies;
Service cadetships, the total number of which is
not to exceed five in any one year. Service
cadets will be selected by the Board of
Admiralty from the sons of officers of the
army, navy, or marines who have been killed
in action, or who have been lost at sea on
active service, or killed on duty, or who have
died of wounds received in action or injuries
received on duty within six months from the
date of such action or injury.
Applications for service cadetships should be
addressed to the Military Secretary, Horse
Guards, if the candidate is the son of an officer
of the army; to the Secretary of the Admiralty,
if the candidate is the son of an officer of the
navy or marines; and to the Military Secretary,
India Office, if the candidate is the son of an
officer of the Indian Army.
Colonial and service cadets will be entered on
passing the test examination specified in paragraph
8, and will in all other respects be subject to these
regulations.
The examination of candidates nominated to com-
pete, and also of service cadets, will be conducted by
the Civil Service Commissioners. A fee of 10s. will
be required from each candidate.

Except in special circumstances not more than
one-third of the number of candidates actually pre-
senting themselves for examination at the Royal
Naval College will be entered. -
Nominations for naval cadetships will take
place half-yearly, as soon as convenient after the
report of the last examination has been received. -
Examinations of the young gentlemen who
have obtained nominations will be held at the Royal
Naval College, Greenwich, commencing on the second
Wednesday in June and the last Wednesday in
November in each year, and the appointments will
date from the 15th July and the 15th January follow-
ing respectively. -
No candidate will be eligible for examination
in June whose age will not be within the following
limits on the 15th July following, viz., not less than
twelve nor more than thirteen and a half years of
age, nor in November whose age will not be within
those limits on the 15th January following. -
Every candidate must be in good health, and
free from any physical defect of body, impediment
of speech, defect of sight or hearing, and also from
any predisposition to constitutional or hereditary
