NAVIGATION OF THE WEST CHANNEL. - KNOLL NEAR
THE SWAN LIGHTSHIP.
PILOTS, masters of vessels, and others are informed
that a shoal has again formed in the vicinity of the
lightship at the Swan Spit. It bears N.E. $\frac{1}{2}$ N. (magnetic) from the lightship, from which it is dis-
tant $1 \frac{1}{2}$ cables' length. This knoll is a cable's length
to the westward of that reported in a Notice to
Mariners dated the 18th February, 1874.
The shallowest water now found on this knoll is
14 feet 4 inches at low-water springs. Owing to its
being found directly in the fairway, and great incon-
venience to steamers having previously been ex-
perienced from the screws fouling the moorings, it is
not intended to mark its position with a chequered
buoy as heretofore.
Point Nepean well open to the eastward of the
Swan Spit Lightship will lead clear of the shoal,
but during the night vessels should not approach the
lightship nearer than 2 cables' length in passing.

of certain Natives to land at Te Kao, near Parenga-

I have the honor to report that, after having given

of "The Native Schools Sites Act, 1880."
A tracing and description of the land so dealt with,
authenticated by my signature, is forwarded herewith.
