Application for Registration of a Trade Mark.
Colonial Secretary's Office,
Wellington, 20th October, 1881.
NOTICE is hereby given that Messrs. W. and G.
TURNBULL, of Wellington, in the Colony of
New Zealand, Merchants, have applied, on behalf of
Messrs. DUNVILLE and COMPANY (Limited), of Bel-
fast, Ireland, to register, under "The Trade Marks
Act, 1866," the trade mark of which the following
is a description, viz. :-
Description of Trade Mark.
A paper label about 5 inches long and 3½ inches
wide with a lilac-coloured ground and a border of
shamrocks printed in green and twining around a
tree-stem. In about the centre of the label is an
oval figure about 2 inches long and 1¼ inches wide,
printed in red and surrounded by a white border
about 1/10 of an inch deep made by two black lines;
outside this border is a gilt border about 1/10 of an
inch deep made by the outer line of the white border,
and another black line narrow at the top and
gradually widening below to a width of 1/8 of an inch;
these white and gilt borders are broken at the middle
of the lower side by the gilt shield-like figure hereafter
described. Printed in white letters on this oval
figure are the words "Old Irish Whisky" in two
lines, the first line consists of the first two words, and
the second line consists of the third word; the letters
of the first two words are about 1/4 of an inch high,
and the letters of the third word are about 1/5 of an
inch. Above the gilt border surrounding the oval
figure is a gilt crown about 1⅛ inches high and 1⅜
inches wide, surmounted by the word "Dunville's"
printed in white letters about 1/10 of an inch high on
a red scroll about 3/4 an inch wide, bounded at the
upper edge by a narrow black line and at the lower
edge by three lines-the upper line of the three being
a narrow black one, the middle line a narrow gilt
one, and the lower line a wide black one about 1/8 of
an inch wide; the ends of the scroll are twined on
either side about the stem around the border of the
label. On the left side of the Crown, about half-way
between it and the border of shamrocks, is the
letter V about 3/4 an inch high, printed in white with
a narrow black border at the top and left side and a
wide black border about 1/10 of an inch wide at the
bottom and right side; on the right side of the
crown, about half-way between it and the border of
shamrocks, is the letter R, of a character similar to
that of the letter V just described. Below the
central oval figure, and joining it at the inner black
line of the white border surrounding it, is a gilt shield-
like figure about 1 inch high and about 3/4 of an inch
wide; in about the centre of this figure are the
letters DC about 1/10 of an inch high, the C overlapping
the D, printed in white with a narrow black border;
inside the letter D is the character & about 1/8 of an
inch high printed in white with a narrow black
border, and inside the letter C is the letter O also
about 1/8 of an inch high and printed in white with a
narrow black border; above the letters DC is the
word "Trade," and below them is the word "Mark,"
both words are printed in black letters about 1/10 of an
inch high. On the right side of the shield-like
figure are a Scotch thistle and a rose, the leaves
printed green and the flowers red, the thistle being
near the shield-like figure and the rose being near
the border of the label; on the left side of the shield-
like figure are similarly printed a thistle and a rose
in the same order. Below the shield-like figure is
the word "Belfast" printed in white letters about
1/10 of an inch high on a red scroll about 3/8 of an inch
wide bounded by lines in a manner similar to that of
the scroll before described; part of the upper part of
this second scroll is covered by the lower parts of the
shield-like figure and thistles, and the ends of the
scroll twine on either side around the stem at the
border of the label. At the lower edge of the label
are the words "Dunville & Co., Limited" printed in
white letters about 1/10 of an inch high on a red scroll
about 3/4 of an inch wide bounded by two narrow black
lines.
Nature of the Article to which it is intended such
Trade Mark shall apply.
