New Zealand Gazette, to constitute throughout the
colony, or in any part thereof, districts within which
such Courts shall be respectively held, and such
districts to abolish, and the boundaries thereof to
define or alter, and also to declare by what local
name such Courts shall be designated :

Now, therefore, I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the
Governor of the said colony, in pursuance and
exercise of the aforesaid power and authority, do
hereby constitute and proclaim the district of the said
colony hereinafter described or referred to, to be, from
and after the fourteenth day of February, one thou-
sand eight hundred and eighty-one, a district within
which a District Court shall be held under the said
Act and under "The District Courts Act Amendment
Act, 1865."

And in further pursuance and exercise of the
authority aforesaid, I do hereby declare that the said
Court shall be designated by the name hereunder
specified, that is to say,—

Designation of Court.
"THE DISTRICT COURT OF ASHBURTON."

Description of District.
All that area of land in the Provincial District of
Canterbury, bounded towards the North-east by
the Christchurch District Court District, hereinbefore
described, from the summit of the Southern Alps to
the sea; thence towards the South-east by the sea to
the Rangitata River; thence towards the South-west
by the middle of that river to Forest Creek; thence
by the middle of that creek to its source in Two
Thumb Range; thence by the summit of the said
range to the summit of the Southern Alps, near
Mount Tyndall; and thence towards the North-
west by lines along the summit of the Southern Alps
to a point due west of the source of the Rakaia
River.

Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Honorable Arthur Hamilton Gordon,
Knight Grand Cross of the Most Dis-
tinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George, Her Majesty's High
Commissioner for the Western Pacific,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in
and over Her Majesty's Colony of New
Zealand and its Dependencies, and Vice-
Admiral of the same; and issued under
the Seal of the said Colony, at Napier,
this twenty-ninth day of January, in the
year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and eighty-one.

A PROCLAMATION.
W
HEREAS the lands described in the Schedule
hereto have been purchased out of the sums
authorized under "The Immigration and Public
Works Act, 1870," and Acts amending the same, to
be issued and expended in the purchase of lands in
the North Island of New Zealand, and it is expedient
that the said lands should be declared to be waste
lands of the Crown:
Now, therefore, I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, being satis-
fied that the lands described in the Schedule hereto
are free from Native claims and all difficulties in
connection therewith, in pursuance and exercise of
the power and authority vested in me by the seven-
teenth section of "The Waste Lands Administration
Act, 1876," and the twenty-eighth section of "The
Land Act 1877 Amendment Act, 1879," and all
other authorities enabling me in that behalf, do
hereby proclaim and declare the said lands to be
waste lands of the Crown, subject, except as in the
first-mentioned Act provided, to be sold and dealt
with according to the provisions of the laws regulat-
ing the sale and disposal of waste lands of the Crown
in force in the Land Districts of Auckland and
Hawke's Bay respectively.

SCHEDULE.
ROTOKAKARANGU.
ALL that parcel of land situate partly in the Provin-
cial District of Auckland and partly in the Provincial
District of Hawke's Bay, known as Rotokakarangu,
containing by admeasurement 16,684 acres or there-
abouts, namely, 9,795 acres in the Provincial District
of Auckland, and 6,889 acres in the Provincial Dis-
trict of Hawke's Bay. Bounded towards the North
by a surveyed line from the mouth of the Whaka-
marino Stream, 46516 links, to Trig. Station No. 126;
thence by a line, 18417 links, to Trig. Station No. 63;
towards the North-east by a line, 11000 links, to the
boundary of the Rotokakarangu No. 2 Block; towards
the East by the Rotokakarangu No. 2 Block, 5660
links, 10883 links and 4350 links, to the Mohaka
River; towards the South by the Mohaka River; and
towards the West by the Mohaka River and Te Hoe
Stream to the mouth of the Whakamarino Stream,
the point of commencement.
