ment has been pleased to disband the under-
mentioned corps :-
Katikati Rifle Volunteers.

The under-mentioned gentlemen, therefore, cease
to hold the rank of officers in the Volunteer Force,
their commissions having lapsed under the provisions
of "The Volunteer Act, 1865: "--

THE following rules for the competition for the
Government Prizes, 1880, are published for
general information.

THE sum of £800 having been voted by the General
Assembly for prizes, the amount has been divided
pro ratâ amongst the Volunteer Corps, according to
the nominal strength on the 31st July, 1880, viz.:-

- The whole sum voted having been set apart for
prizes, no claims for marking, &c., can be entertained.
Each district must arrange for markers at its own
expense. - A Committee, consisting of the Officer Com-
manding and not less than two senior Volunteer
Officers in each district, will divide the amounts set
apart for their respective districts into such prizes as
they may determine, and to be competed for at such
ranges, &c., as they may appoint. The Commissioner
of Armed Constabulary will issue rules for the prizes
apportioned to that force. - The firing for these prizes must be in accordance
with the general rules published in 1878. - The competitions to take place at such times as
may be directed by the Officer Commanding the
district, and they must be concluded before the 31st
December, 1880. - As soon as possible after the firing has been
concluded, returns showing the conditions under
which the competitions took place, the names of the
prize-winners, and the several amounts of the prizes,
together with the full scores of all competitors, must
be sent to the Under-Secretary for Defence.
Taranaki District established under Shipping and Sea-
men's Act, and Receiver of Wreck appointed.

NOTICE is hereby given that a district called the
Taranaki District has been established for the
purposes of "The Shipping and Seamen's Act, 1877,"
the limits thereof being Albatross Point on the
north, and the Waingongoro River on the south; and
that
ROBERT THOMPSON, Esq.,
Collector of Customs at New Plymouth, has been
appointed Receiver of Wreck for the said district.

on the Australian Station.
Shoal Water Reported. The Master of the cutter
"Rose," of Levuka, reports having passed over a
large coral bank in lat. (approximate) 11° 3' S., and
long. (approximate) 179° 50′ E.; two or three casts
of the lead gave 14 and 15 fathoms. The bottom
appeared very regular, and was plainly seen. No
land was visible from her masthead.
