Delegating Powers to Hon. H. A. Atkinson as
Commissioner of Customs.
HERCULES ROBINSON, Governor.
WHEREAS by "The Customs Regulation Act,
1858," it is enacted that it shall be lawful for
the Governor, in the name and on behalf of Her
Majesty, from time to time to appoint and remove a
superior officer of Customs, who shall have the con-
trol and direction of all other officers and persons
employed in or about the collection and management
of the revenue of Customs, and who shall be styled
the "Commissioner of Customs;" and also in like
manner from time to time to appoint and remove,
or to depute to the Commissioner the power to
appoint and remove, officers and persons subordinate
to the Commissioner to collect and manage the
Customs revenue, and to perform the several duties
incident to and connected with the collection and
management thereof:
Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert Robin-
son, Governor of the colony as aforesaid, in pur-
suance and exercise of the said power and authority,
do hereby delegate to
HARRY ALBERT ATKINSON,
the Commissioner of Customs appointed as afore-
said, the power to appoint and remove officers and
persons subordinate to the Commissioner to collect
and manage the Customs revenue, and to perform
the several duties incident to and connected with the
collection and management thereof vested in me by
the said in part recited Act, to be held and exercised
by him from time to time as he shall think fit, so
long as he shall hold the said office of Commissioner
of Customs.

Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony

Notice under the Imbecile Passengers Acts.

IT is hereby notified for general information that
under "The Imbecile Passengers Act, 1873,"
"The Imbecile Passengers Act Amendment Act,
1875," and "The Imbecile Passengers Act Extension
Act, 1879," when any person shall arrive in New
Zealand being either lunatic, idiotic, deaf, dumb,
blind, or infirm, and is likely to become a charge
upon the public, or upon any public or charitable
institution, the owner, charterer, or master of the
ship by which such person arrives is required within
fourteen days after her arrival to execute, with two
sufficient sureties, jointly and severally, a bond to
Her Majesty in the sum of Β£100 for every such
person, conditioned to pay to the Colonial Treasurer
all moneys or expenses which shall or may be laid
out or incurred within the space of five years from
the execution of the said bond for the maintenance
or support of such person; and the sureties must
produce satisfactory evidence of their being respec-
tively residents in New Zealand, and each worth
treble the amount of the penalty of such bond over
and above all their liabilities.

Marks Act, 1866," the trade mark of which the
following is a description, viz :-
Description of Trade Mark.
An oblong label having the words "Mother Seigels"
surmounting an oval band bearing the words "Cura-
tive Syrup," "Operating Pills," and at base another
extended ribbon similar to the first bearing the
words "Extract of American roots." Within this oval
band a sketch of an old woman dressed as a Quakeress,
seated at a table with an open book thereon, and
