Proclaiming Districts under "The Diseased Cattle
Act, 1871," Otago and Southland.-Notice No. 55.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Diseased Cattle Act, 1871,"
it is, amongst other things, enacted that the
Governor, by Proclamation to be published in the
New Zealand Gazette, may from time to time esta-
blish and define such and so many districts as he shall
think fit to be districts under the said Act, and to
each such district there shall, in the Proclamation
defining it, be attached such name as the Governor
shall think fit, and by which name it shall thereafter
be called, and that every such district may from time
to time in like manner be altered or constituted anew
in such manner as the Governor may think fit:
Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert Robin-
son, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
aforesaid, in pursuance and exercise of the above
recited power and authority, do hereby revoke the
Proclamation made the thirteenth day of August,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-two, defin-
ing the Otago Cattle District:
And I do hereby define all that tract of country
comprising the Counties of Waitaki, Waikouaiti,
Maniototo, Vincent, Peninsula, Taieri, Bruce, Clutha,
and Tuapeka, with such islands as may be adjacent
thereto, and all cities and boroughs within the boun-
daries of the said counties, as and to be a district
under and for the purposes of "The Diseased Cattle
Act, 1871;" and, in further pursuance and exercise
of the powers conferred upon me by the said Act, I
do hereby attach to the said district the name of
"The Otago Cattle District:"
And I do hereby define all that tract of country
comprising the Counties of Southland, Wallace,
e Fiord, and Stewart Island, with such islands
as may be adjacent thereto, and all cities and
boroughs within the boundaries of the said counties,
as and to be a district under and for the purposes of
"The Diseased Cattle Act, 1871;" and, in further
pursuance and exercise of the powers conferred upon
me by the said Act, I do hereby attach to the said
district the name of "The Southland Cattle Dis-
trict:"
And, lastly, I do hereby declare that this Procla-
mation shall take effect on and after the eighteenth
of May, one thousand eight hundred and eighty.

1871."-Notice No. 56.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
18th day of May, 1880.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by the thirteenth section of "The
Diseased Cattle Act, 1871," it is enacted that

the Governor in Council may from time to time, as
occasion shall require, make any special regulations
altering any of the general regulations, either wholly
or in respect of any matters which shall seem to be
necessary to be made in respect of any particular
district or any part thereof; and all such special
regulations shall take effect from and after such day
being a day not less than thirty days subsequent to
the first publication thereof:
And whereas by an Order in Council bearing date
the twenty-fifth day of March, one thousand eight
hundred and eighty, and published in the New Zealand
Gazette of the same date, certain "Diseased Cattle
Regulations" were made:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council thereof, in
pursuance and exercise of the power and authority
conferred by the said Act and by "The Diseased
Cattle Act Amendment Act, 1873," and of all other
powers and authorities enabling him in this behalf,
doth hereby make the special regulation set forth in
the Schedule hereto:
And doth order and declare that such regulation
shall take effect from and after the twenty-first day of
June, one thousand eight hundred and eighty, from
which day the same shall come into operation.
SCHEDULE.
SPECIAL REGULATION.
NOTWITHSTANDING anything to the contrary con-
tained in the Diseased Cattle Regulations of the
25th March, 1880, if any person who either by land
or sea shall drive, remove, or cause to be driven or
removed, or assist in driving or removing, any cattle,
out of the South Auckland Cattle District, to the
Tauranga District, the County Cook District, or to
any other district south of the South Auckland Dis-
trict, or south of the said districts, such person shall
be liable to a penalty of fifty pounds for every head
of such cattle so driven or removed from the South
Auckland Cattle District; and if any cattle stray
out or from the said district into any place in any
district hereinbefore prohibited, the owner or person
having the care or possession of such cattle shall be
liable to a penalty of ten pounds for every head of
cattle which shall have so strayed.
