Defining the Middle Line of Portion of the Hurunui-
Waitaki Railway-Branch Line from the Main
Line to Upper Ashburton (further portion),
about 7 miles 79 chains.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the branch line of railway from the
main line, Hurunui-Waitaki, to Upper Ash-
burton, is one of the railways specified in the First
Schedule to "The Public Works Act, 1879," and
which Act is therein declared to be a special Act
authorizing the construction of such railway; and
the same is unfinished, and it has been determined
to construct and maintain a further portion of such
railway:
Now, therefore, I, Arthur Hamilton Gordon, the
Governor of the Colony of New Zealand, in exercise
and in pursuance of the powers and authorities con-
ferred on me by sections one hundred and twenty-two,
one hundred and twenty-three, one hundred and
twenty-four, and one hundred and twenty-five of "The
Public Works Act, 1876," and in exercise of every
other power and authority enabling me in that behalf,
do hereby proclaim and declare that the middle line
of the said further portion of the said railway shall
be from a point situated at the easternmost corner
of Rural Section number thirty-three thousand and
ten, in the Upper Ashburton Road District, to a
point distant about twenty-two chains in a south-
westerly direction from the north-west corner of
Section number thirty-one thousand two hundred
and four, in the Mount Somers Road District, all
within the Provincial District of Canterbury and
Colony of New Zealand, as defined and set forth
in the Schedule hereto. The said middle line and
the land through which the same passes are set
forth in the map and plan marked P.W.D. 8067,
and authenticated for the purposes of this Proclama-
tion by the signature of the Honorable John Hall,
the Minister acting for the Minister for Public
Works, and which said map and plan is deposited
in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court
at Christchurch, in the Provincial District of Can-
terbury.
SCHEDULE.
COMMENCING at or near a point situated at the
easternmost corner of Rural Section No. 33010, in
the Upper Ashburton Road District, said point being
the point of termination of the railway from main
line to Upper Asburton, as described in the Procla-
mation dated the 9th May, 1879, and published in
the New Zealand Gazette No. 51, of the 15th May,
1879; proceeding thence in a generally west north-
westerly direction for a distance of 7 miles 79 chains,
and passing in, into, through, or over the following
lands, viz.: In Upper Ashburton Road District
aforesaid-A railway reserve and R. 2255; and in
Mount Somers Road District-Improvement pre-
emptive right, Crown lands, Rural Sections Nos.
30471, 30304, 30470, 30469, 30468, Crown land, im-
provement pre-emptive right, Rural Sections Nos.
31387, 31203, 34412, 30642, 31204, Crown lands;
and terminating at a point distant about 22 chains in
a south-westerly direction from the north-west corner
of said Section No. 31204; all within the Provincial
District of Canterbury and Colony of New Zealand;
including all adjoining and intervening places, lands,
roads, streams, and watercourses; in the manner
delineated on the plan marked P.W.D. 8067,
which plan is signed by the Honorable John Hall,
Minister acting for the Minister for Public Works,
and deposited in the office of the Registrar of the
Supreme Court at Christchurch, Provincial District
of Canterbury.
