of Invercargill.

THE following notice received from His Worship
the Mayor of Invercargill is published for general
information, in accordance with section 145 of "The
Municipal Corporations Act, 1876."

SIR,-I have the honor to notify to you, pursuant
to section 145 of "The Municipal Corporations Act,
1876," that, at a poll taken on Friday, January 10,
1879, a resolution in favour of the following proposal
was duly carried :-

CORPORATION OF INVERCARGILL.

PUBLIC notice is hereby given that the Municipal
Council have resolved to undertake the construction
of waterworks for supplying the Town of Invercar-
gill with water from the Dunsdale Creek by gravita-
tion. For this purpose it is proposed to borrow the
sum of Β£100,000 by means of debentures, bearing
interest at six per cent. per annum.

The security proposed to be pledged to be the
water rates, levied as follows:-

  1. In respect of the ordinary supply,-

Upon all lands and buildings to which water is
supplied whose rateable value on the valuation
roll-

Does not exceed twelve pounds ten shillings,
a rate not exceeding ten shillings per
annum:

Exceeds twelve pounds ten shillings, but
does not exceed one hundred pounds, a
rate not exceeding seven per cent. on
such value:

Exceeds one hundred pounds, but does not
exceed two hundred pounds, a rate not
exceeding six per cent. on such value:

Exceeds two hundred pounds, but does not
exceed three hundred pounds, a rate not
exceeding five per cent. on such value:

Exceeds three hundred pounds, a rate not
exceeding four per cent. on such value.

Upon all lands and buildings to which water can
be but is not supplied, situate within one
hundred yards from any part of the water-
works, a rate not exceeding one-half of the
rates above mentioned.

Upon all buildings used as stores or warehouses,
or for any purposes other than as dwelling-
houses, a rate of two and a half per cent, on
the rateable value.

  1. In respect of the extraordinary supply,-
    Such rates as may be fixed by any by-law in that
    behalf, or as may be agreed on, subject to any
    such by-law, with any person receiving such
    supply.

  2. In respect of any meter provided by the Council
    for measuring the quantity of water supplied, such
    annual charges as may be fixed by any by-law in that
    behalf.

  3. Provided that if the revenue therefrom is in-
    sufficient to meet interest and charges, a special rate
    of sufficient amount to cover the deficiency shall be
    levied on the rateable property of the town.
