Defining the Middle Line of Portion of the Railway
from Palmerston to Waihemo.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the one hundred and twenty-
second section of "The Public Works Act,
1876," it is enacted that every railway shall be made
only under the authority of a special Act, which shall
state as nearly as may be the line of the railway and
the two termini thereof; and, by the one hundred and
twenty-fourth section of the same Act, that when any
railway is to be constructed under the provisions of
any special Act the Governor shall issue a Proclama-
tion defining the middle line of the railway or any
part thereof, and may from time to time, by a Pro-
clamation revoking or amending such former Pro-
clamation, alter such line in any manner or to any
extent which may be found necessary for the con-
struction of such railway within the provisions of the
said special Act; and, by the one hundred and
twenty-fifth section of the same Act, that the
Minister shall cause to be made and deposited in the
office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court such
maps and plans as may be necessary to explain the
said line and the land through which the same passes,
and such maps and plans shall be referred to in any
such Proclamation: And whereas the railway from
Palmerston to Waihemo is one of the railways
specified in "The Immigration and Public Works
Appropriation Act, 1878," and which Act is therein
declared to be a special Act for the said railway,
within the meaning of "The Public Works Act,
1876:" And whereas it has been determined to con-
struct and maintain a portion of such railway, namely,
from a point situate in Ronaldsay Street, Town of
Palmerston, to a point in Section number sixty, Block
seven, Moeraki Survey District:
Now, therefore, I, Sir Hercules George Robert
Robinson, Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
in exercise and in pursuance of the powers and
authorities conferred on me by "The Public Works
Act, 1876," and in exercise of every other power
and authority enabling me in that behalf, do hereby
proclaim and declare that the middle line of the said
portion of the said railway shall be that defined
and set forth in the Schedule hereto. The said
middle line and the land through which the
same passes are set forth in the map and plan
marked P.W.D. 7006, and authenticated for the
purposes of this Proclamation by the signature of
the Honorable James Macandrew, Minister for Public
Works, and which said map and plan is deposited
in the office of the Registrar of the Supreme Court
at Dunedin, in the Provincial District of Otago.
SCHEDULE.
COMMENCING at a point situate in Ronaldsay Street,
Town of Palmerston, on the Amberley to the Bluff
Railway, said point being within the limits of devi-
ation of the portion of the railway from Dunedin to
Moeraki, as described in the Proclamation dated the
25th day of November, 1875, and published in the
New Zealand Gazette No. 65, of 25th November,
1875, and proceeding thence in a generally north-
westerly direction for a distance of 5 miles or
thereabouts, passing in, into, through, or over the
following lands: Town of Palmerston; Moeraki
Survey District, Block X., Sections Nos. 67, 65, 63,
62, 61, 54, 52, 50, 48, 46, 45, 43, 41, 40, 39, 31, and
30; Block IV., Section Nos. 15 and 14; Block V.,
Sections Nos. 46, 38, 28, 27, and 26; Block VII.,
Sections Nos. 90, 89, 87, 85, 80, 78, 70, 67; and
terminating at a point in Section No. 60; all within
the Provincial District of Otago, Colony of New
Zealand; including all adjoining and intervening
places, lands, roads, reserves, streams, rivers, and
watercourses, in the manner delineated on the map
and plan marked P. W.D. 7006, signed by the Honor-
able James Macandrew, Minister for Public Works,
deposited in the office of the Registrar of the Su-
preme Court at Dunedin, in the Provincial District
of Otago, the total length being 5 miles or there-
abouts.

Proclamation reducing Jurisdiction of Resident
Magistrate's Court for the Napier and Wai-
pukurau District.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the twenty-second section of
"The Resident Magistrates Act, 1867," it
is enacted that it shall be lawful for the Gover-
nor, by Proclamation in the New Zealand Gazette,
at any time to abolish the extended jurisdiction
which he is by the said Act authorized to confer
upon any Resident Magistrate's Court: And
whereas by a Proclamation bearing date the fifth
day of January, one thousand eight hundred and
seventy-five, the limit of jurisdiction of the Resident
Magistrate's Court hereinafter mentioned was ex-
tended to one hundred pounds: And whereas it is
expedient to abolish the extended jurisdiction given
to the said Court by the said Proclamation, and to
declare that the limit of jurisdiction of the said
Court shall be extended to fifty pounds:
Now, therefore, I, Hercules George Robert Robin-
son, the Governor of the Colony of New Zealand,
do hereby, in pursuance of the power and autho-
rity vested in me by the said Act, proclaim and
declare that, on and after the first day of June,
one thousand eight hundred and seventy-nine, the
extended jurisdiction so given as aforesaid to the
Resident Magistrate's Court for

shall be abolished, and that, from and after the said
first day of June, the jurisdiction of the said Court
shall be extended to fifty pounds.
