The deaths of persons not residents of the boroughs, occurring at hospitals, have been excluded in all cases.

The births were 21 more than in February, 1879.

The deaths were 21 less in number than the deaths in February, 1879.

Of the deaths, males contributed 87; females, 64: 84 of the deaths were of children under 5 years of age, being 55·63 per cent. of the whole number; 65 of these were of children under 1 year of age.

There were 9 deaths of persons over 65 years of age, viz., 2 males of 66 and 79 and 1 female of 70 at Auckland; 1 male of 79 at Thames; 2 males of 73 and 84 at Dunedin; 1 female of 68 at Christchurch; 1 male of 65 and 1 female of 70 at Wellington.

The following Table shows the Causes of the Deaths of Persons of both Sexes under 5 years of age and 5 years and upwards, and the Proportions per Cent. of Deaths from each cause in the Boroughs named, and that were registered, during the Month of March, 1879.
