Assumption of the Government of New Zealand by Sir Hercules Robinson.

A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS Her Majesty has been graciously pleased, by Letters Patent, under
the Great Seal of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, bearing
date at Windsor, the twenty-second day of February, one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-nine, to constitute and appoint me, Hercules George Robert
Robinson, Knight Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael
and Saint George, to be Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's
Colony of New Zealand and its Dependencies:
Now I, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief aforesaid, do hereby proclaim and
declare that I have this day taken the prescribed oaths before His Honor Christopher
William Richmond, one of the Judges of the Supreme Court of the said Colony, and
that I have assumed the said office of Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over
the Colony of New Zealand under and by virtue of Her Majesty's said Commission.
Given under the hand of His Excellency Sir Hercules George Robert Robinson, Knight
Grand Cross of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George,
Governor and Commander-in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony of New Zealand
and its Dependencies, and Vice-Admiral of the same, at the Government House, at
Wellington, this seventeenth day of April, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight
hundred and seventy-nine.
