Declaring "Regulation of Local Elections Act, 1876,"
in force within the Wangaehu Highway Board
District.

A PROCLAMATION.
BY virtue of the power vested in me by the third
section of "The Regulation of Local Elections
Act, 1876," I, George Augustus Constantine, Marquis
of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony of New
Zealand, do hereby proclaim and declare that the
said Act shall come into force, in respect of all the
elective offices of the Wangaehu Highway District
Board, within the District known as the Wangaehu
Highway Board District.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-
stantine, Marquis of Normanby, Earl of
Mulgrave, Viscount Normanby, and Baron
Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New
Ross, in the County of Wexford, in the
Peerage of Ireland; a Member of Her
Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Coun-
cil; Knight Grand Cross of the Most
Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and
Saint George; Governor and Commander-
in-Chief in and over Her Majesty's Colony
of New Zealand and its Dependencies,
and Vice-Admiral of the same; and issued
under the Seal of the said Colony, at the
Government House, at Wellington, this
ninth day of October, in the year of
our Lord one thousand eight hundred
and seventy-eight.

Land within the Westland Gold Field exempted from
occupation for Mining Purposes.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by the eighth section of "The Mines
Act, 1877," it is enacted that it shall be
lawful for the Governor in the Proclamation con-
stituting a mining district, and also from time to time
by Proclamation subsequently issued, either by
general or particular description, to set apart for
mining purposes exclusively any portion of Crown
lands within a mining district, and in like manner to
exempt from occupation for mining purposes, or for
water-races, dams, or reservoirs, or for machine,
business, or residence sites, any land within the
boundaries of such mining district, and from time to
time any such exemption to revoke, and the limits
and extent of the land in any such district comprised
to alter as he may think fit:
And whereas at the time of the commencement of
the said Act there was constituted a gold field known
as the "Westland Gold Field," and such gold field
is by the provisions of the said "Mines Act, 1877,"
to be deemed a mining district under that Act:
And whereas the land described in the Schedule
hereto is within such mining district, and it is
expedient to exempt the same from occupation for
mining purposes, or for water-races, dams, or reser-
voirs, or for machine, business, or residence sites:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and exercise of the
powers and authorities vested in me by "The Mines
Act, 1877," do proclaim and declare that the land
described in the Schedule hereto is hereby exempted
from occupation for mining purposes, or for water-
races, dams, or reservoirs, or for machine, business,
or residence sites.
SCHEDULE.
ROAD FROM MIKONUI TO OKARITO.
ALL that area in the Provincial District of Westland,
being the Main South Road from Mikonui River to
Okarito, estimated to be fifty-one (51) miles in
length, more or less, for a distance of seventy-five
(75) links on each side of a line along the centre of
the formation.
Given under the hand of His Excellency the
Most Honorable George Augustus Con-

Mulgrave of Mulgrave, all in the County
of York, in the Peerage of the United
Kingdom; and Baron Mulgrave of New

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
eighth day of October, 1878.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
BY virtue of the powers and authorities vested in
me by the eleventh section of "The Public
Reserves Act, 1877," I, George Augustus Constan-
tine, Marquis of Normanby, Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, by and with the advice and consent
of the Executive Council of the said colony, do
hereby order and declare that the reserve made for
public recreation in the Provincial District of Can-
terbury, and known as the "Kowai Pass Racecourse
and Recreation Ground," and described in the Sche-
dule hereto, shall be and the same is hereby brought
under the operation of and declared to be subject to
the provisions of "The Public Domains Act, 1860,"
and its amending Acts; and such domain shall here-
after be managed, administered, and dealt with in
manner directed by the said Acts.
SCHEDULE.
ALL that parcel of land in the Provincial District of
Canterbury, situate in the Malvern District, contain-
ing by admeasurement one hundred (100) acres
more or less, on the north-eastern side of the Coal
Tramway Reserve, the said point being the western-
most corner of Section 14381; thence north-westerly,
following the said reserve, a distance of eleven chains
sixty links; thence northerly, following the road
forming the eastern boundary of Reserve No. 1248
