purposes of the Act now in recital, the words "due
inquiry" in the said Order in Council should be
deemed and taken to extend to inquiries made and
carried through by persons thereunto appointed by
the Governor: And whereas by "The Commissioners
Powers Act, 1867," provision is made for enabling
Boards or Commissioners, appointed by the Governor
in Council, to examine witnesses on oath, to require
the production of books, papers, writings, deeds, and
other documents, and to exercise the powers and
authorities in the said last-named Act mentioned:
Now, therefore, I, George Augustus Constantine,
Marquis of Normanby, the Governor of the Colony
of New Zealand, in pursuance and in exercise of
the powers and authorities vested in me as aforesaid,
do hereby, with the advice and consent of the Execu-
tive Council of the said colony, appoint
HENRY TACY CLARKE,
of Wellington, Esquire, to be a Commissioner to make
the inquiry required by the said Order in Council,
and by "The Tauranga District Lands Act, 1867,"
and "The Tauranga District Lands Act, 1868," for
the purpose of determining for what persons of the
tribe Ngaiterangi three-fourths in quantity of the
lands in the said Order in Council and in the Acts
last aforesaid shall be set apart, in pursuance of the
said Order in Council and "The Tauranga District
Lands Act, 1867," with all the powers and autho-
rities by "The Commissioners Powers Act, 1867,"
provided in the case of any Board or Commission
appointed or issued, or to be appointed or issued, by
the Governor in Council.

Fixing Date of Sittings of Circuit Courts at Nelson
and Hokitika.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-third day of January, 1878.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
WHEREAS by "The Supreme Court Act, 1860,"
it is enacted that there shall be held Circuit
Courts for the despatch of Civil and Criminal busi-
ness of the Court before one of the Judges thereof,
at such places and times as the Governor in Council
may from time to time appoint:
Now, therefore, His Excellency the Governor of
the Colony of New Zealand, by and with the advice
and consent of the Executive Council of the said
colony, in pursuance and exercise of the power and
authority vested in him by "The Supreme Court
Act, 1860," doth hereby appoint that there shall be
held in the Nelson District, at the Provincial Council
Hall, at Nelson, on the second Monday in April
next, and in the Westland District, at the Supreme
Courthouse at Hokitika, on the fourth Monday in
March next, Circuit Courts for the despatch of Civil
and Criminal business of the said Court.

Regulations for Auditing Accounts of School
Committees.

ORDER IN COUNCIL.
At the Government House, at Wellington, this
twenty-third day of January, 1878.
Present:
HIS EXCELLENCY THE GOVERNOR IN COUNCIL.
BY virtue of the powers and authorities vested in
me by "The Education Act, 1877," I, George Augustus Constantine, Marquis of Normanby, Go-
vernor of the Colony of New Zealand, by and with
the advice and consent of the Executive Council of
the said colony, do hereby make the following regula-
tions for prescribing the times and manner of audit-
ing the accounts of School Committees :—

Every School Committee shall, not less than
three days before the fourth Monday in the month of
January, in the present and every succeeding year,
submit its accounts for audit to some qualified person
appointed by the Committee. -
Such person shall have access to all the books
and accounts of the Committee and any of its officers,
and shall examine the general statement of the re-
ceipts and expenditure of the Committee and verify
the same with the accounts and vouchers relating
thereto, and shall either certify under his hand the
same as found by him to be correct, duly vouched,
and in accordance with law, or specially report to
the Education Board of the district in what respects
he finds it incorrect, unvouched, or not in accordance
with law. -
This regulation shall apply to the accounts of
every School Committee constituted prior to or after
the coming into operation of "The Education Act,
1877."

Notification of the Payment of Money on and Entry
into Negotiations for the Purchase of Native Lands
in the North Island.
NORMANBY, Governor.
IN pursuance of the provisions of "The Government
Native Land Purchases Act, 1877," it is hereby
notified that money has been paid by or on behalf of
Her Majesty the Queen for the purchase or acquisi-
tion of the several blocks of Native land in the North
Island which are more particularly described and
mentioned in the Schedule hereto; and, further, that
negotiations in respect of such purchases or acquisi-
tions as aforesaid have been entered into by or on
behalf of Her said Majesty.
SCHEDULE.
PIRAUAU.
ALL that block or parcel of land in the Poverty Bay
District, in the Provincial District of Auckland,
containing by admeasurement 4,112 acres or there-
abouts, known by the name of Pirauau. Bounded on
the North by the Rangiwhaiau Block, the Paparoa
Block, and the Ruangarehu Block; thence on the
East by the Pirauau-Tuakau No. 1 Block; thence on
the South by the Mangatarata Creek; thence on the
West by the Mata River to the starting point: as
delineated on a plan deposited in the Survey Office,
Napier. This block has not passed the Native Land
Court.
PIRAUAU-TUAKAU No. 1.
All that block or parcel of land in the Poverty
Bay District, in the Provincial District of Auckland,
containing by admeasurement 8,540 acres or there-
abouts, known by the name of Pirauau-Tuakau No. 1.
Bounded on the North by the Tuakau No. 2 Block;
thence on the East by the Onetehunga Creek and
Tokomaru Block; thence on the South by the
Tuakau Block, the Uriwiri Creek, and the Mangaroau
Creek; thence on the West by the Mangatarata
Creek and the Pirauau Block to the starting point.
This block has passed the Native Land Court.
TUAKAU No. 2.
All that block or parcel of land in the Poverty
Bay District, in the Provincial District of Auckland,
