Lands taken for the purpose of a portion of the
Railway from Amberley to the Bluff, passing by
Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Christchurch, Ashburton, Timaru,
Oamaru, Palmerston, Port Chalmers, Dunedin, Bal-
clutha, and Invercargill (Addington Workshops).
A MEMORIAL
LAID before His Excellency the Governor by the
Minister for Public Works, pursuant to the pro-
visions of "The Public Works Act, 1876," contain-
ing an accurate description of the lands proposed to
be taken for a certain public work—to wit, the con-
struction of a portion of the railway from Amberley
to the Bluff, passing by Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Christ-
church, Ashburton, Timaru, Oamaru, Palmerston,
Port Chalmers, Dunedin, Balclutha, and Invercargill
(Addington workshops).
ALL that parcel of land situate in the Christchurch
District, Provincial District of Canterbury, Colony
of New Zealand, the property of and in the occu-
pation of James Nichol, containing by admeasure-
ment five (5) acres, more or less, being part of the
Rural Section No. 113 on the map of the Chief
Surveyor of the Provincial District of Canterbury,
setting out and describing the rural lands in the said
Christchurch District. Commencing at a point on
the south-western boundary of Section No. 113
aforesaid, said point being distant 2408 links from
its southernmost corner, and thence in a north-
easterly direction a distance of 1249 links, thence in
a north-westerly direction along the north-eastern
boundary of the said section a distance of 400 links,
thence in a south-westerly direction a distance of
1249 links, and thence in a south-easterly direction
along the south-western boundary of the said section
a distance of 400 links to the commencing point.
Also all that parcel of land situate in the Christ-
church District, Provincial District of Canterbury,
Colony of New Zealand, the property of and in the
occupation of David Whyte, containing by admeasure-
ment three (3) roods and twenty-one (21) perches,
more or less, being part of Rural Section No. 9 on the
map of the Chief Surveyor of the Provincial District
of Canterbury, setting out and describing the rural
lands in the said Christchurch District. Commencing
at a point on the south-western boundary of Rural
Section No. 9 aforesaid at a distance of 2315 links
from its southernmost corner, thence north-easterly
245 links to an accommodation road, thence north-
westerly along the said road 232 links, and thence
again north-westerly 358 links to the south-western
boundary of Rural Section No. 9, and thence south-
easterly 492 links along the said boundary to the
commencing point.
Also all that parcel of land situate in the Christ-
church District, Provincial District of Canterbury,
Colony of New Zealand, the property of and in the
occupation of E. C. J. Stevens, containing by ad-
measurement two (2) roods and four (4) perches, more
or less, and being part of the Rural Section No. 9 on
the map of the Chief Surveyor for the Provincial
District of Canterbury, setting out and describing
the rural lands in the said Christchurch District.
Commencing at a point on the south-western boun-
dary of Section 9 aforesaid, distant 1654 links from
its southernmost corner, and thence in a north-

easterly direction a distance of 241 links to an ac-
commodation road, thence in a north-westerly di-
rection along the said road a distance of 220 links,
thence in a south-westerly direction a distance of
242 links to the south-western boundary of Section
9, and thence in a south-easterly direction along the
said boundary a distance of 218 links to the com-
mencing point.
The above particulars being delineated upon the
plan marked P.W.D. 6516 hereto attached.
I, the undersigned, James Macandrew, the Min-
ister for Public Works, hereby certify that the
above-written memorial is true and correct in the
several particulars thereof.

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS by "The Public Works Act, 1876," it
is enacted that, whenever lands are required
to be taken for public works, the Minister for Public
Works shall cause a survey to be made and plans to
be prepared showing generally the nature of the
works proposed to be executed and the lands required
to be taken for the same, together with the names of
the owners and occupiers of such lands so far as they
can be ascertained, and shall cause a copy of such
plans to be deposited in some place in the road
district in which such lands are: And it is further
enacted that the said Minister shall cause a notice to
be gazetted, and to be twice publicly notified, stating
the place where such plans are open for inspection,
with a general description of the works proposed to
be executed and of the lands required to be taken;
and if after due consideration the said Minister is of
opinion that it is expedient that the proposed works
should be executed, and that no private injury will
be done thereby for which due compensation is not
provided by the Act now in recital, the land proposed
to be taken shall be taken in the following manner,
that is to say: The said Minister shall lay before
the Governor a memorial containing an accurate de-
scription of the lands proposed to be taken, together
with a map thereof, signed by the Surveyor-General
or some certificated surveyor as evidence of the
accuracy thereof; and the Governor in Council may
thereupon, if he think fit, by Proclamation gazetted
and publicly notified, declare that the said lands are
taken for the use of a railway, road, or other public
work, as the case may be; and from and after a date
to be named in the said Proclamation the lands
therein specified shall become absolutely vested in
fee-simple in Her Majesty, discharged from all mort-
gages, charges, claims, estates, or interests of what
kind soever, for the public use named in the said
Proclamation:
And whereas the lands described in the memorial
above written are required to be taken under the
authority of the said "Public Works Act, 1876," for
a certain public work—to wit, the construction of a
portion of the railway from Amberley to the Bluff,
passing by Rangiora, Kaiapoi, Christchurch, Ash-
burton, Timaru, Oamaru, Palmerston, Port Chalmers,
Dunedin, Balclutha, and Invercargill (Addington
workshops):
And whereas all the requirements and conditions
