NOTICE TO MARINERS.
No. 22, of 1878.

EXHIBITION OF FIXED WHITE LIGHT ON CENTRE
ISLAND, FOVEAUX STRAIT.

Wellington, N.Z., 22nd August, 1878.

WITH reference to the preliminary notice issued by
this department, dated the 22nd day of October,
1877, it is hereby notified that, on and after Monday,
the 16th day of September next, a Light will be
exhibited from the Lighthouse which has been
erected on Centre Island, the position and character-
istics of which are as follow:-

The Centre Island Lighthouse is situated on the
southern extremity of Centre Island, in Foveaux
Strait, New Zealand.

The Tower is 20 feet in height, built of timber and
painted white. The Light will be FIRST ORDER
FIXED, showing WHITE from the bearing of North
78° West, round by the North, over an arc of 176°, to
the bearing of South 82° East. The light will SHOW
RED from this latter bearing to South 54° East, and
RED between the bearings of North 78° West and
South 4° East, and between this latter bearing
and the bearing of South 54° East the light will
NOT BE SHOWN.

The Light is elevated 265 feet above the sea, and,
allowing 15 feet for the height of the eye, will be
seen at a distance of about $22\frac{1}{2}$ nautic miles in clear
weather, and at lesser distances according to the
state of the atmosphere.

NOTE.—All bearings are magnetic and taken
towards the Light.

Sheet XI.

IT is hereby notified that the principal moneys
secured by the debentures issued under the
Ordinance above cited, and falling due on the 1st
November next, will be paid on presentation of the
bonds on or after that date at the Bank of New
Zealand, London, or at the Bank of New Zealand,
Dunedin, whichsoever was the place at which the
last payment of interest on the respective bonds was
paid, viz. :-

At the Bank of New Zealand, London, Bonds
Nos. 418-427, 433-452, 471-490.

At the Bank of New Zealand, Dunedin, Bonds
Nos. 301-302, 364-417, 428-432, 453-470,
491-494, 496-500.

£10,000 Bonus.

Crown Lands Office,
Wellington, 22nd April, 1878.

NOTICE is hereby given that, in terms of a reso-
lution of the House of Representatives, the
Government of New Zealand will pay, by way of
bonus, the sum of five thousand pounds (£5,000) to
any individual or company who shall first produce
not less than five hundred (500) tons of marketable
sugar from beet grown and manufactured in the
North Island. Also that a like sum of five thousand
pounds (£5,000) will be paid to any individual or
company who shall first produce not less than five
hundred (500) tons of marketable sugar from beet
grown and manufactured in the Middle Island.
Such bonus to be paid upon its being duly certified
by the Commissioner of Crown Lands of the district
within which the sugar shall have been produced,
and by the Chairman of the nearest Chamber of
Commerce, that the minimum quantity hereinbefore
mentioned has been so produced, and is of market-
able quality: Provided further that such certificates
shall have been presented at the Colonial Treasury
within three years of the date above written.

Change of Purpose of Reserve at Carlyle, in the
Provincial District of Taranaki.

IT is hereby notified that His Excellency the
Governor intends, under the provisions of the
one hundred and forty-eighth section of "The Land
Act, 1877," to change the specific purpose of the
land described in the second column of the Schedule
hereto, for which the land was heretofore set apart
as a reserve, as specified in the first column of the
said Schedule, to the specific purpose specified in the
third column of the said Schedule.

Site for offices\nfor the Patea\nCounty Council.

IT is hereby notified for general information that
the designation of the Post Office in the Christ-
church Postal District, known as Southbridge
Junction, has been changed to
HORNBY.

Registration of a Friendly Society cancelled.

Registrar-General's Office,
Wellington, 3rd September, 1878.

NOTICE is hereby given that the Registrar of
Friendly Societies has, pursuant to section 11
of "The Friendly Societies Act, 1877," by writing
under his hand dated the 28th day of August, 1878,
cancelled the registry of the Loyal Marton Lodge,
Manchester Unity Friendly Society (Register No.
106), held at Marton.

The ground for this cancelling is the receipt of
information that the society has ceased to exist.
