GOVERNMENT NOTICE.—No. 348, 1878.
Office of the Commissioner of Crown Lands and
Public Works, 29th April, 1878.
With reference to the above notice, it is now
hereby further notified that the tower is in all
respects completed and ready for the reception of
the apparatus; that a fracture having occurred to
certain portions of the latter during transport, the
expected exhibition of the light was unavoidably
delayed.
Mariners and others are now informed that the
light will almost certainly be exhibited about on
and after the 15th June next, 1878; and that the
tower already is a conspicuous available day-mark.

Alterations and Additions to the Rates for the Con-
veyance, Delivery, and Storage of Goods, Parcels,
&c., on all the New Zealand Railways.
IN accordance with the By-laws for the New Zea-
land Railways, fixed by Order in Council, dated
the 17th day of April, 1877, the following alterations
to the rates for the conveyance, delivery, and storage
of goods, parcels, &c., on all the New Zealand Rail-
ways are hereby declared to be fixed. To take effect
from the 20th day of August, 1878:—
SCHOOL TICKETS.
All previous rates for school tickets are hereby
cancelled, and the following substituted:—
Season tickets, for scholars and students whose
age does not exceed nineteen (19) years, upon the
production of satisfactory certificates from the
schoolmaster that the applicants are bonâ fide
scholars in attendance at school, and that their age
does not exceed the prescribed limits, will be issued,
available only for travelling to and from school, at
per quarter or fractional part of a quarter, irrespec-
tive of distance, each, ten shillings (10s.).
These tickets will terminate on a quarter-day, the
charge to be the same whether the ticket is taken
out at the beginning of a quarter or at any later
date. First-class carriages are not guaranteed,
except in the case of girls.
TIMBER.—CLASS K.
All previous rates for timber are hereby cancelled,
and the following substituted:—
Sawn timber, squared and round logs, and mouldings
(at owners' risk) halfpenny (d.) per 100 superficial
feet per mile for each mile up to 30 miles; three-
eighths of a penny (d.) per 100 superficial feet per
mile for each additional mile. Minimum charge
sevenpence (7d.) per 100 superficial feet.
No charge less than for 500 superficial feet per
truck.
Round timber, string measurement; no allowance
for bark, tops, butt, or unsound wood.
Australian timbers, rate and a half.
Half-inch boards and under, half-rate. No reduc-
tion in minimum charge.
100 palings, or 1,000 shingles, as 100 feet timber.
Owner to do all loading or unloading. For each
TIMBER—SMALL LOTS.
Small lots of timber, which can be conveyed in one
truck, may be carried at double rates. Minimum
quantity, 100 superficial feet; minimum charge, one
shilling and twopence (1s. 2d.) per 100 superficial
feet.
No charge for loading or unloading.
COKE.—CLASS F.
The charges will be rate and a half, instead of
double rate as hitherto.
LIVE STOCK.—CLASS L.
Previous rates for the conveyance of live stock in
large lots are hereby cancelled, and the following
substituted:—
Sheep, Pigs, Goats, and Calves, in Truck-loads.
Pigs, sheep, goats, and calves, in single-floor trucks
to be carried at ten shillings (10s.) per truck for all
distances not exceeding 10 miles; and for each
additional mile, fourpence (4d.) per truck per mile
up to 50 miles; and for each additional mile, three-
pence (3d.) per truck per mile, up to 100 miles; and
for each additional mile, twopence (2d.) per truck
per mile.
Two-floor trucks will be charged at one and a half
the above rates.
Sucking pigs in hampers or baskets may be sent
as parcels, according to weight.
Cattle, in Truck-loads.
Cattle to be carried at fifteen shillings (15s.) per
truck for all distances not exceeding 10 miles; and
for each additional mile, fivepence (5d.) per truck
per mile, up to 50 miles; and for each additional
mile, fourpence (4d.) per truck per mile, up to 100
miles; and for each additional mile three pence (3d.)
per truck per mile.
All animals to be loaded and unloaded by owners,
who must take entire responsibility and risk.
No truck with live stock is to be loaded with more
animals than can be conveniently placed therein.
AUCKLAND SECTION.
Passenger fares published in the New Zealand
Gazette of 17th January, 1878, are hereby cancelled,
and the following substituted in lieu thereof:—
